The hard drive is either not working properly or the ide cable may be bad. the problem is ther motherboard has located the hard drive, buth it is not responding it it os the motherboard gives up(times out). usually this indicates the hard drive is bad, listen to the drive as it spins up, if there is any strange noises or repetitive clunking sounds then you willl know it is the drive. Try replacing the ide cable and seeing if this fixes the problem. we know the harddrive is receiving power, and the motherboard has found the drive (or else it would be an error). if the ide cable does not help, then replacing the hard drive is the only other option. And you would need a mode chip.

try changing the big gray cable fisrt. If it still doesn't work then you your harddrive is bad. Try doing a google search for a mod chip.
