    Has anyone tried this?

I'm sure you could have some problems streaming movies/games from the drive...but what about using like a 160 Gb external drive for copying AVI/Mpeg/homebrew, etc.?

why not just edit the xbmc.xml file to tell xbmc to look on your pc for music/pictures/movies...will save you a ton of space on your xbox hd.

I want to be able to copy files from one Xbox (which works fine)to another (that has a bad DVD drive) without the hassle of FTP.

Would be alot easier, copying files straight from PC to USB HDD, then from USB HDD to Xbox.

The alternative would be to setup Xbox to Xbox ftp, that means cloning my network settings with the other Xbox's Network, in this case means, turning on DHCP, setting up the IP Address for the FTP server that I'm logging into, then changing back to my original settings after I'm done...blah blah blah...see what I mean?

Just as an example, I would have already been copying by the time I finished posting the last message ^^^

i see what you are saying...wasn't quite sure exactly what you wanted to do in your original post...i am pretty sure someone has hooked up a external hd, but the transfer speed are extremely slow.

You think there's a limit to the size of USB devices XBMC/Xbox can initialize?

I know it can read up to 128/256 Mb USB jump drives, but I'm not sure if I should shell out for a huge ext.HDD if it's not possible.

I can deal with the speed issues, I'm just after the plug-n-play aspects.

hmm trying to remember...pretty sure i saw it over at xbox-scene in the hardware/casemodding forum...you might run a quick search for external hd's over there and see what you come up with.

here is a thread i found real quick...i guess i was wrong about a large external usb hd.
