Hello, I hope someone in this forum can help me with this question. My Xbox basically stopped working from one day to the next, i.e. no modifications or changes being made. The problem in more detail: I powered it up and after a few seconds the ring starts flashing red and green. My first thought was that the modchip got dislocated for some reason (using an XBIT mod chip - non-soldered). Opened up the case and refitted the chip until I got a solid green light upon switching it on (without the discdrive and HDD connected). Put everything together again - same problem again - red and green flashing light. I tried disconnecting the discdrive and only have the HDD connected - didn't work. Disconnected the HDD and suddenly I had a solid green light. Ok, maybe the HDD is dead. Connected the original stock HDD - same problem again - flashing light. This is where I am clueless now - any idea what the problem might be? As a sidenote: immediately when I start up the Xbox, I hear a low "thunking" sound once (hard to describe the sound). I have not heard this before, but then again I had never listened for it either. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thats strange! Since you have your box modded, try putting a different HD in to see if it works. Otherwise, put your hard drive that you think doesn't work into a friends modded Xbox and see if it works in his/hers...
your mother board is screwed...d0 prob. my friend does really good work w/ xboxes he could probally fix it for like 20 to figure out to fix the prob. contact him @ NoPostingEmails@afterdawn.com or tctsk8r on aim.

Ok, just last night my Xbox Version 1.0 power supply went bye bye and I couldn't figure out why?? Maybe a blown fuse, who knows??.....Anyways, the Xbox just switched from Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to a blue screen of death in the middle of a game?? The eject board leds started cycleing colors and I couldn't turn off the Xbox with the power eject board, instead I had to disconnect the power cable from the back of the box. Luckily, I had another 1.0 power supply laying around the house so I used it and it solved my problem.....my next steps would have been to check the mobo and hdd but I never got that far. I soldered the chip myself and it's been working fine for 5 months now so I ruled that out!! Again, I'm not sure you have the same problem but it's a start......later
Are you using a new power cable that Micrsoft was giving away for ver 1.0's? Some people reported that their Xbox's were frying because the original power cords were basically crap. The likeliness of your power cord being the cause is slim, but there is a chance. If you want to get a new power cord, go onto xbox.com and you can get one for free if you have not already.
The reason for the powercord scare was because Microsoft was trying to cover up the bad solder jobs on the PSU, that's why they had a recall on all version Powersupply except the 1.6 Xbox's. That explains the loud pop every time you disconnect the power cord from the back of the box......I removed both powersupplys from my 1.0 and 1.3 Xbox's and soldered 2 shiny new joints on them.....it still didn't stop my 1.0 powersupply from dying on me. I would recommend most people to check the psu and see if there is any black smoke from the joints on the psu, if there is then clean the area with alcohol and get some .32 rosin core solder and redo those bad joints. I fixed the problem by replacing that bad psu unit with an extra foxling power supply I had in my house...my next step would have been to check the resistor on the mobo itself or replace the mobo. So far so good......later
