After I decrypt a DVD and go to use DVD Schrink, On the right side of the window there are the choices for audio tracks. On the top there are the Audio choices. For instance, the current DVD I am schrinking has 3 choices for audio. AC3 5.1-ch English 347MB AC3 2-ch French 148MB AC3 2-ch English 148MB AC3 5.1-ch English 297MB Why are there wo AC3 5.1-ch English. Are these both the same. Ive also seen DTS tracks and I know that some of my DVD viewing software doesnt support DTS. Also, below the Audio wondow is a subpicture window, is this the same as subtitles? If so, then I can delete all of them if I dont want subtitles, right? Ive had some DVD's that are running 51-52% compression and I I can get rid of the extra audio tracks (especially if there are duplicates) then I could improve the video quality.
Normally you only need to select one audio stream - preferably the first one which is normally AC3 5.1-ch English or AC3 2-ch English. Deselect the others (including repeats) - they are not necessary. Use the re-author mode in Shrink if you want to get rid of extra garbage other than the main movie - this will increase your compression ratios considerably. Read or download some of the guides available from the Guides tab at the top of this page.
@nicklaus - in addition to colw's comments, just noticed you started another thread about this (you'll have to track 2 threads now!, not difficult as you have the answers now, but imagine if it was a long running problem and you [and we] had to track numerous threads) - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/192558, have answered that thread.. hope that helps and look at the guides like colw suggested, they're very good..
