Ps2 was easy to copy and play + backups worked online + free online play

Xbox was hard to copy + can't play live with a mod + cost for live

xbox 360 is going to have a ton of proection more than the original xbox + a whoel lot more because micorsft are big piracy haters, will the ps3 be easy or hard to copy, can u play online with a mod, free online play, and if they are goign to use blu ray dvd how much are those and how much will the blu ray burners be

The new PS3 will have ray discs and you will need to buy EXPENSIVE RAY DISC MEDIA and EXPENSIVE DVD BURNER dedicated to backing up RAY DISCS.

@messup000

psp had seem quite hard to do, but i read today that a team has cracked the UMD discs and now they have access to the code, and are testing to see if the memory sticks will run them

so it may not be all that far away as of now

@aznskinzy

blu ray is expensive now, but give it time and it will be just like normal. dvds were expensive, so were dual layers, but everything comes down in price

and also ill be very surprised if developers use blu ray from the start of the ps3

Sony really wants Blu-Ray to take off. I don't find it hard to see Sony releasing all their games in Blu-Ray format.

Think of it like this : USB was a massive failure in it's first few years. After certain companies started investing heavily into it, especially Apple, the USB format took off. Look at USB now, it's the most popular format for connecting things. Same thing with DVDs. Nobody wanted to use DVDs because of the high price of burners and media, also, the fact that no one had any use for that much space. Music was usually ripped into 128KBits and shared over the internet, and movies were often ripped into AVIs using DivX.

In fact, nowadays, it's still very much the same, except that the filesizes are about 3 times the size, since most people have broadband now.

Anyways, if Sony and the other companies push enough money into it, people will be using Blu-Rays as much as they use DVDs. Now think of it, besides movie-pirates/backuppers who in the hell uses a DVD burner? There's absolutely no use for it, since even data archiving is a pain in the ass with DVDs. It's going to be the exact same with Blu-Ray. Only enthusiasts and us backuppers will be using Blu-Ray discs and burners.

Finally, there's plans for Blu-Ray readers by the end of this year. And Blu-Ray burners by as early as next year. And it's expected that since Blu-Rays can be made using the same methods used to print DVDs, the price in making them will be the same as DVDs as time goes by. Just look at DVDRs now. Some DVDRs are almost as cheap as CDRs.

About a year from now, Blu-Ray will be much bigger, you just wait and see :)

Good point. The ps2 started out with the games on cd's, not dvd's. According to the ps3's specs, they support:

DVD: PLAYSTATION(R)3 DVD-ROM
Blu-ray Disc: PLAYSTATION(R)3 BD-ROM

One can assume that the first games to be released will be on ps3 dvd-rom.
