Sony really wants Blu-Ray to take off. I don't find it hard to see Sony releasing all their games in Blu-Ray format.
Think of it like this : USB was a massive failure in it's first few years. After certain companies started investing heavily into it, especially Apple, the USB format took off. Look at USB now, it's the most popular format for connecting things. Same thing with DVDs. Nobody wanted to use DVDs because of the high price of burners and media, also, the fact that no one had any use for that much space. Music was usually ripped into 128KBits and shared over the internet, and movies were often ripped into AVIs using DivX.
In fact, nowadays, it's still very much the same, except that the filesizes are about 3 times the size, since most people have broadband now.
Anyways, if Sony and the other companies push enough money into it, people will be using Blu-Rays as much as they use DVDs. Now think of it, besides movie-pirates/backuppers who in the hell uses a DVD burner? There's absolutely no use for it, since even data archiving is a pain in the ass with DVDs. It's going to be the exact same with Blu-Ray. Only enthusiasts and us backuppers will be using Blu-Ray discs and burners.
Finally, there's plans for Blu-Ray readers by the end of this year. And Blu-Ray burners by as early as next year. And it's expected that since Blu-Rays can be made using the same methods used to print DVDs, the price in making them will be the same as DVDs as time goes by. Just look at DVDRs now. Some DVDRs are almost as cheap as CDRs.
About a year from now, Blu-Ray will be much bigger, you just wait and see :)
