it should be until you have some useful knowledge to share, but in reality it's something like 25 or 50 posts. do a search, there's a hundred threads with this exact same question and the accommodating answer.

I will not sell my PS2 until there are some mods available for the PS3 to allow me to play my PS2 and PS1 backups. I hope that will be immediately, but I am sure it will take time to tell which mods work and are the best.

I wouldnt sell my Ps2, I would just buy a PS3 and keep the PS2. If you sell your PS2 your probably not gonna get much for it anyway. I bought a Gamecube and gave that thing away then bought a PS2.

I agree with most of you I am going to keep my PS2 also and get the PS3.I have a decent collection for PS2.When the PS3 comes out it won't have a big selection until a couple months pass an so forth. You would also lose alot of money if you sold it,as mentioned because it would be an outdated system.I also like to play with my backups instead of my originals.

There is no need to have ps2 when you have ps3. Of course for those who play only "backups" (seriously, no one plays backups, it's just plain piracy) ps2 might be a keeper for a while.

if there's more than one kid between the ages of 5 and 15 (and often times 5 and 75) in a household, you could always use the system, for obvioius reasons :)

Arcanix why do you think backups are considered piracy. If you own the original you are allowed to keep your investment.I like to keep what I have,if a backup messes up who cares I can replace it easily. If the originals get messed up,well that is different it would be hard to keep replacing that.If what you said was true then no information on backing up games would be allowed on here. Not everyone is pirating games like you mention.Another reason I am going to keep my PS2 is to learn how to program for it later on.It is suppose to be harder than PS3 from what I am hearing. If you learn how to program for PS2,then PS3 shouldn't be as hard.

i could never see myself parting with my PS2...after all the time and energy i've put into it, shaping it to my will, adapting and modding it, making it a truly unique creation that i love! just look at my extensive list of modifications:
-removal of the drive cover plate
oh...yeah...umm... XD

L-Burna, you wanna program on consoles? Do what I'm planning on doing sometime this summer. See if you can grab ahold of a development kit for the PSP or the GBA (most likely not).
Anyways, the PSP has an amazingly development kit. It's a full IDE, with an emulator for the games you make, and even a debugger. It's friggin amazing.
So, yeah, we should look up our hookups, see if someone can get us something :)

Don't sell until you know if the PS3 can play Ps2 backups. If it doesn't you'll need your Ps2

Yeah, the PSP's an amazing console, you know?
When I played the Nintendo DS, I just thought it was another gameboy with a faster processor and more memory, it was just a bigger, more expensive gameboy, but the PSP is something truly amazing.
I mean, have you seen games like "Lumines" and "Metal Gear Acid?"
Dude, it's insane, that console is something that's truly outstanding, you actually can't judge it until you play it.
I mean, I had really low expectations for the system at first, but after actually PLAYING on one, I was completely blown away.

Oh by the way Remy what do you think the development kit will cost man.I am betting it is a thousand or so,but yeah it is alot of dough brotha. You have to remember though you would be getting a UMD disc drive external, and from what I am looking at so far it won't work with certain firmware for PSP systems bro(1.5 firmware). The dev chain isn't updated for the latest systems yet and only demos at the moment. It will come around later on man, just give it time and things will progress though.

L-Burna, I'm pretty sure a dev kit costs a whole lot more. I'm not exactly sure, but I think that the way it works is that you put in enough money, they give you a kit and some support for your software.
As for development on one, I was saying that the way that we'd be most likely to actually even begin WORKING on that console would be to get ahold of the IDE and then develop the games ourselves, and test them in the built-in emulator.
I never thought that UMD would ever come into the equation. I honestly hate how much Sony brings their propietary formats into everything. For one, you can only use memory sticks with the console, and two, the only way to load programs and games is through the UMD drive.
It kinda reminds me of Sega's old GD-ROMS that they used in the dreamcast, and in both of their NAOMI arcade boards.
