Hello all. I spent a better part of the day trying to find some info why the encode process is taking long and I am hoping someone here can provide some clues.

Hardware/software:

Dual Xeon 2.2 (capable of hyperthreading, currently off)
1 Gig RAM
100 Gig HD (defraged)
Clean install XP Pro (not SP2)
Latest version of DVD RB using installer
QuEnc .59 (came with installer)

7.3 gig disk:
Prepare time - 8 minutes
Encode time - 22.4+ hours (using QuEnc with Trellis Quan + HQ mode on -- I know, it is supposed to be slow, but 22+ hours???)
Rebuild - roughly 30 mins

Processes roughly 5-6 FPM.

Saw a thread somewhere to run the encoding process on a multi-cpu machine, but was not able to locate it. Is there any way to improve performance with the existing setup/quality settings? Please help (otherwise it's back to Shrink).

Task manager shows 50% CPU utilization (25% with hyperthreading enabled). Encoding time difference negligible with HT on or off.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Your times are definately way too long.Have you tried th HC Encoder that also comes with the installer.I use CCE Basic and can do most movies in under 2 hours.I have also ran the HC Encoder which usually runs in the 3 hour range. You mighy want to re install and start fresh and double check your set up.

I've seen others with the same problem and I think it's something amiss in the setup of it. Try the installer as Wild77 says.
