Hoping someone can help me out. I've got an IDE1008 writer and am using Verbatim 8x media code MCC 02RG20.

For some reason DVD Decrypter is showing 4x as the max write speed. Even when I manually change the drop down to 8x, it only writes at 4x.

Anyone have an idea why it thinks 4x is the max?

If you are in ISO Write mode the log in decrypter should tell you what the supported burn speeds are. Not all 8x burners will burn all 8x media at 8x.

Yeah, it's showing 2x, 4x as supported write speeds. I don't understand why it wouldn't be able to write Verbatim (good) media at 8x?

At the least, I would expect it to say it could be written at 8x and then error out if it had problems.

sometimes firmware tells burners to burn certain media at slower speeds.

I own this drive and you will not get it to burn a -R disk faster than 4X, and updating firmware won't do it.

Thanks for the info. Not a huge deal that it can only write 4x but I was just baffled as to why it wouldn't work.

Other than this minor issue, the drive has been good to me. I've gone through a stack of 100 4x dvd-r's with no coasters at all.
