What do you want to do with it. You didn't specify LiteOn/ILO. So I assume you are not copying Commercial VHS to DVD. What about the Pioneer.

Yes, I like to convert all of my original VHS tape to DVD.

    > Pioneer.
I skip Pioneer because , not on the list & price range of the BestBuy ads. My option is open to Pioneer too, I have Pioneer burner 108 and love it.

If you copy commercial VHS tapes. You will run into Macrovision.Get a LiteOn or ilo [Made by LiteOn for Wal Mart]. I do not think that other units can be hacked. If you look at ilo make sure it is a 04 series unit. The 05 unit is made by Cyberhome and no hack is available. If you can't find an ilo or don't want it, look at the LiteOn. The LiteOn /ilo is very easy to Hack. Go to Guitarman site http://www.ss3f.com. he also has many posts on the subjact. He has a Pioneer [which is a very good unit] and an ILO. I think he would pick the ILO for your purpose. I have the ILO DVDRHD04 [with hack ] and am very pleased with it. It has worked on all copy protected material. Be aware, copying a Comercial DVD to the LiteOn /ilo will require that you play the disk in another DVD and record in real time [1x1]
