Older HD
It is not easy for me to get to DOS to format old HD.
No telling what ver. of Win would be on the old HD.
Once you have format a HD in DOS you can still do re format NTS what ever win xp uses? or is it the other way round? I fried a couple of HD with a win ME boot / fdisk / format before :) finally found out that problem the hard way. Winxp do not like it at all.
Grateful for any and all helpful information and guidance. Thank you arnold2

make certain you are using either win98 or winme boot disk not dos6.x boot disk. can fdisk than format the hd in fat32 than boot up on xp cd, it will ask you to stay as fat32 or ntfs, stay fat32 than continue load of xp

Also the Regedit did not work.

WEEEEE
old HD New WinXPP Sp1a No problem downloading at all.
What in the world could have caused the problwm with the other HD and programs... I ususally blame everything on Direcway Satalite .. Come to think about it a lot of my downloads from that connection were corrupt had to re do. I could download from Download.net no problem or anywhere else for that matter. Just AfterDawn No download... I do not have Direcway set up on this HD. dial up connection..
How can I find out what is going on ?
Going to reconnect the other HD now... The No dl HD lol
Grateful for any and all helpful information and guidance. Thank you arnold2

I have done that so many time MS knows me by first name w/ directions to the house... LOL
Only had this winXPP system set up for a month maybe. Thank you very much ddp. Looks like that maybe the only way out... I just swap HD format this use as a second. No problem. I am real good at it. Lots of experience!! Have every thing backed.
It has been an adventure. So glad AfterDawn is not pv'ed at me for anything. Nice not to be in do do.
won't take me long to be all clear running again.
Learning a lot here, don't think I'll ever learn to spell worth a spit. If I did, then how would the snob's feel superior?
Don't think I'll have to edit this one.

I can download .zip files okay. was going to try to find a cause for the no .exe download. MS doesn't know either. only that it does have to do with sp2. They are working on the problem.
was hoping to get out of installing all my software again. I know they must think I have 20 or 30 computers as many times registering the same software. Just a follow up ... thanks

The problem was in the registry. Ran a registry edit program deleted everything it found not relevant. The Virus protection found MYDOOM.L House Call found AGOBOT.XM. Sure thought the virus program would get them before they did their thing, guess not. Running other programs to make sure they are gone. Whew! I still would not know if it weren't for the registry program. This site was helpful as well if you want to take a look How to Optimize XP. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html
In download heaven again.
