Try Videora. It is free as well. I also found you can convert using Nero as well. I used Nero Recode 2 and it works fine.

Videora is NOT free. It only converts the first 3 minutes of the clip if you have the free trial.

HELP!! I'm trying to convert a .wmv file that I have created using Windows Movie maker. The conversion goes fine but when I try to open it after it con vers the following pops up " Error-2048; the file was not a movie file" I'm at my wits end. Isn't a windows movie in exactly the same format as a .wmv that has not been edited to be a "movie"?

ufdoc1992, For some reason this tends to happen most frequently with typeless files whose names end in ".dat".
If the MP4 flle you converted all can't be played, try uninstall and reinstall Quicktime player. As usual, the MP4 flle can be played back with iTunes 6.0 or Quicktime Player. iTunes 6.0+quicktime Player package can be downloaded from http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
-----------
Tiggers, you can download PQDVD from http://www.goripper.com/download/pqdvd_ipod.rn.exeIt is shareware. You can convert 5-minutes video files with the trial version.

Thanks for the help dkmopq
but after the uninstall reinstall it shows the same error. Here are my steps:
1-Open Quicktime plater
2-Open file
2-Looks in "My Videos" for a "movie" file, of which it shows I have none. I have made a ton of movies using Windows Moviemaker and it will not show them. I also have laready bought Quicktime Pro and it goves me the same error.

Tiggers,
This post is talking about How to convert DVD/Video to iPod using Cucusoft DVD to iPod Converter. But I am very glad to help you solve the problem about videora. :)
Try uninstalling and reinstalling .Net Framework.
1. Uninstall Microsoft .Net Frameworks 1.1 from Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel.
2.Downloading .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package from the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=262d25e3...Name of the exe file is dotnetfx.exe
3. Install .NET from dotnetfx.exe
4. Restart - to a clean desktop!
Maybe help!

ufdoc1992, I have spend about one hour on how to fix the error "Error-2048; the file was not a movie file", only found some posts are asking the same question, but no solution is provided. :(
You might as well look for the solution with google. such as http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&newwindow=1&q=Error-2048%3...
:)

ufdoc1992, I have asked some friends about your problem, they said the files might be corrupt.
If you like, please upload one wmv file to somewhere, then tell me the download URL with Private message. I will try to test it :)

Indeed it does lose a little quality, but it is by far the easiest dvd-to-ipod. Thing is, not many people are prepared to get their money out their pockets & buy it! :P
