It's on page 37 in the Owner's Manual.
--Press 'SETUP'
--Scroll to select 'DISK EDIT'
--Press 'OK'
--Scroll to select 'FINALIZE'
--Press 'OK'
--Scroll to select 'YES'
--Press 'OK'
--Finalizing begins!

If you lost your manual, here's a link to download the PDF version:

http://www.funai-corp.com/support/manuals.aspx

Type in 'MWR20V6', click 'Search' and the PDF link appears.

Thanks for your help. I the disc had to be full before it would let me finalize it. I have it under control now. Thanks again! :)

Strange! You're supposed to be able to finalize without filling the disk. I've done several that way and finalized with no problem. There could be a problem with your machine.

Hi,

This is my first dvd recorder. I was able to record programs as I watch tv. My problem is when I set the timer to record future programs, the channel choices are E1 and E2 only. I cannot change it to the channel I am using, on the satelite channel, nor even change it to CH@2 or 3, or anything. Can you help me on this? Thank you

Hi Mike. I have also had this problem, and I replaced the option from Off to On, however, I still have an empty title. I made sure that the clock setting was correct, but I am using DVD(-). Does this make a difference? Should I use DVD(+)? And yes, I did finalize the seesion. Thanks. Tufftommy

Nice to meet you Bob and thanks for the kudos! It means a lot particularly considering none of us have any way of knowing how many others have read what we posted. In all honesty, I've wondered whether or not anyone's found my posts helpful. Now (thanks to you) I know someone is reading them which gives me the comfort of knowing it was worthwhile. Obviously it takes a considerable amount of effort to write everything up and then finally check each and every detail to ensure it's accuracy. I felt somewhat badly my last several posts took up as much space as they did, compared to most of the other posts. However asking a question most often requires only a few sentences, at most. Answering that question or questions typically takes a full written page, when done properly and adequately.

In reply to your recent question Bob the behavior you're describing indicates to me you need to alter the REPLACE DISC MENU setting from OFF to ON. This is discussed on page 27 of your Owner's Manual. But they don't elaborate much at all regarding what this particular function does (like with most everything else in the manual). Press the SETUP button on your remote to locate this setting. Unfortunately the programmers decided to make the default setting OFF. If you change the setting to ON I believe you'll obtain the behavior you're looking for. Specifically meaning the unused empty title at the tailend will be eliminated from the DVD MENU upon finalization. Please try doing this and let us know how you made out. I believe this will remedy the problem.

Before closing, I'd just like to ask you (and anyone else reading this section) about the idea of creating a SEPARATE forum SECTION dedicated solely to the Magnavox MWR20V6 DVD Recorder. Or at least relocate this thread to the DVD recorders section which would be far more appropriate. While some of us know to come to this unrelated section, the vast majority of others don't. I feel strongly a substantial (if not drastic) number of others would also be able to benefit from our posts and replies, given that accommodation. Also consider the point our currently dislocated thread doesn't show up in the main forum listings since it's so deeply buried within a totally unrelated section. This being yet another serious drawback to the way things are presently organized.

The only reason I started posting in this particular unrelated section was due to the fact other MWR20V6 owner's had already done so. In the strictest sense and in all honesty our posts and replies are OFF-TOPIC with respect to "Video Capturing from Analog Sources" at least it seems so to me. Thus I feel making this course correction is a good idea and perhaps long overdue. All we need to do beyond that is leave a post here explaining the relocation so anyone coming here will know where to find the new dedicated section and thread. Equally important (if not more so) after having made this change, users will easily be able to locate it simply by displaying the main forum listing. Please let me know what the rest of you think about this suggestion.

Hi Tomnsusan. I'm assuming you are using a satellite dish to get your programming. Do you have RCA cables running from the dish into the DVD recorder, and then to the TV set? E1 and E2 are a/v outputs for the front and back RCA outlets using the RCA cables. I think that the new technology for cable tv and satellite dish prevents using the traditional coaxial cables, as instructed in the Magnavox manuals. I have the same problem with Comcast Digital Cable. Try this method:
From the back of the dish or whatever converter box you have, locate the audio/video OUT RCA outlets (they are usually red, yellow, and white). From there, plug them into the dvd recorder according to the RCA outlet (Audio out to Audio in, Video out to Video in). Another set of RCA plugs -- from the DVD recorder, go audio/video OUT to the TV (audio/video IN). Now, tune the dish to a channel, put the dvd recorder on either E1 or E2, put the TV to an input channel (Input, Front, Back, etc) until you get the signal. Once you get a signal from the dish, that means it is going through the DVD and you can record.

First I want to say great forum Second if you can't tell by the name
I work Custermer support for Funai Corp. For those of you that have experinced this I apoligize. I will be more then happy to answer any questions about any funai products any one may have i might even have some of my own...

Any ways I was reading the post and the guy that was asking about not being able to record because of E1-E2 thing all you have to do is make sure that the rf cable is hooked up correctly from the out on the satilite and in to the dvd rec then run the channel scan the channel your sat comes thrugh on the tv will be the same it comes thru on the dvd rec once you have that you just change the channels on your satilite.

Thanks for your response. The Satelite was previously connected to the tv using the red yellow and white cable. To connect the recorder, I disconnected the yellow, red and white cable from the tv and connected it the recorder. Then connected the recorder to the tv using the red, white and yellow cable. I can use the RF cable, however, it has lower picture quality than the red, yellow and white cable. In so doing, I can only record what I am watching, or set my channel where I want to time record the program.

Ater several months of no problems with the Magnavox MWR20V6 unit, I am now having that infamous "Recording Error E-25" problem when trying to dub old family VCR tapes (not copyrighted/protected/etc) to DVD. After making several dubs (VCR --> DVD) that went without a hitch; it now seems that every time I try to dub a VCR tape to DVD - somewhere between 2:30 to 25:30 minutes into the process, the wheels come off with the "Recording Error - This Program is Not Allowed to Be Recorded E-25". Process shuts down and I have only a partial dub - in effect a wasted disc and time.

Anyone found a solution to this problem; or is this an isolated case - or?? I am trying to contacting the Funai folks (manufacturer of the unit), but have not heard back from them yet (in fairness - need to give them time to respond). However, if anyone else has had this problem and solved it (or not solved it), would like to hear from you.

I am using Verbatim DVD+R 8X blank discs - if that will help in anyones thoughts.

Im trying to hide the menu alltogether so that the disc just automatically plays. Most of my discs only have 1 title on them, so it seems pointless in having a menu with 1 title on it. Ive read how you can hide "titles" but i also read that hidden titles are skipped during playback which defeats the point of hiding them.

Does anyone know how to disable the menu on the disc and just for the disc to playback the "one and only first title" on the disc?

At the mo Im having to record the material. rip it to my hard disc and re-encode to DVD files with no menu. help :D

Hello. I am a grandmother trying to transfer old vhs tapes to dvd. I just bought the MWR20V6 from Walmart. I am fairly good at reading directions and am not afraid to get up to my eyebrows in techy things. I can not get this thing to work. I bought the Maxwell DVD+R blanks. I can get the vhs to play, then pause, then click on dubbing. It looks like its dubbing, and when I switch over to dvd to try playing what I just taped, I see the title picture of what I taped but when I select the frame it's on, nothing happens, in fact when I go to play the dvd, it shows me the spinning dvd emblem in the right hand corner of my TV screen, but then it gets a red X over the dvd picture. What am I doing wrong? ANY help would really be appreciated. I want to copy these old vhs tapes of my kids so I can show my grandchildren via dvd how nerdy there parents were!

Hi all... in addition to below I am able to program the dvd recorder but at the end of every recording the system seems to default to an error message of some kind leaving the screen with a flashing "DVD". I have to reset it every time to get it to record the next time.

Any help with this problem?

Many owners of the MWR20V6 DVDR are having trouble using the TIMER RECORDING mode.

Using the TIMER button on the remote control permits you to build a list of up to (8) future video programming event(s) you wish to record. Once having done so however, you MUST place the unit in the STANDBY MODE by pressing the TIMER SET button on the remote control, which is the FINAL step in the process!

Placing the unit in STANDBY MODE effectively powers it down, just as if you'd turned it OFF as you normally would. The difference being, when the unit's in STANDBY MODE it'll automatically turn itself ON, tune to the correct channel and begin recording at the start-time specified, in the entry you made using the TIMER menu. Certainly, it would've been far more intuitive if they'd named the button STANDBY instead of TIMER SET.

If you want to use your DVDR in the meanwhile to view a DVD or VHS movie, just press the TIMER SET button on the remote control again to take it out of STANDBY mode. Just be darn sure to reinsert a BLANK DVD back in the tray and place the unit back in STANDBY MODE again, once you're done.

While overseas products (such as those made in China) are dazzlingly low in cost (due to slave labor wages) we must remember the documentation's written by people whose native language and culture is NOT the same as ours. This becomes painfully apparent upon having to decipher the documentation accompanying such products.

Okay, I have a problem with my MWR20V6.
I bought it in Aug 06, been going along dubbing my old VCR movies either on DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD+R discs....now in the last few weeks, it isn't accepting any of them....Sony, Maxwell, Memorex...none....and the VCR portion is eating my tapes...well, not actually just winding out more tape and tangle inside....
Oh disc are 1x-16x or 16x

Any help is greatly appreciated....

Hi, I purchased an MWR20V6 recorder and came across the Macovision protection trying to back up old disney VHS's. I read on one of Mike's earlier posts in this thread that using a learning remote allows you to use secret codes to disable the protection on some models, but I cannot find any mention of such a code elsewhere. I would appreciate it if someone would post the code, or at least how to find it, or otherwise if there is another firmware method to disable the protection.

TIA

I want to know if I dub from dvd to vcr. Collect a full 6 hrs on video, would I be able to dub the 6 hrs of video on to dvd? Or will vcr-dvd dub only 2hrs? I know I can record up to 6 hrs of tv on dvd via menu 1 hr at a time which turns out cool.

Help! - I had purchased a Magnavox MWR20V6 from WalMart in November 2006 - up until 3 weeks ago - you could record programs onto the VHS tapes - now the tracking is off and you can't watch them. I have tried everything to get them to correct the tracking - even tried a new VHS tape - worked for a little bit and then would not. Besides it being a piece of cr*p is there any assistance beside buying a new one? Thanks

I just bought the mwr20v6 myself-- nice picture, decent recording.
I understand to hit timer set when I am done.
I am using dvd-rw disks.
the box says it can recoerd on either type, yet unless I hit the timer set button within an hour before it is to start, it will not record.
in fact, the dvd light begins to flash before the recording is to start.
help bwefore I return it
