In order to have the "page info" tool, you muse be using Firefox. Not to say that you couldn't do it without "page info", but it is more difficult to find the link. Firefox is superior to IE anyway, there's no reason not to get it, but considering that IE does not have this feature, it's probably a good choice.

If you don't want to do it yourself, tell me which video you want and I'll find the URL myself, then paste it into this forum. It's really quite easy; if you look at the "solution" section you'll see that it's only 6 steps. As I said before, figuring it out is the hard part, once that is done the solution is quite simple.

When you use snaggit, you download a .flv file, which is a form of video file used by Flash. Unfortunately, /flv's can only be played in special software players, and often are seperated to prevent copying; this is probably the cause of you're "no audio" problem. My method, however, produces a .swf file, which does not require special software to play and contains the entire content of the video. I would not recommend using snaggit or keepit, as they only produce .flv's.

That being said, I restate my offer: if you don't want to do it, refer me to a specific video and I'll do it. It's not a big deal.

P.S. My signature is a Guiness reference, not an attestation to my own brilliance. Although I'm glad you mistook it as so ;).

Brilliant!

Hi, I checked out Firefox and read alot in the forums. There
really seemed to be alot of problems concerning different sites,
add ons, etc. Really don't need the headache. Maybe in due time. Anyway, I will gladlypay you for your time for these two animations. I have no problem with that because I can't thank you enough.

I was just thinking, why don't you create a program for IE
users that will do this. I'm so sure you could. I'll buy the
first one, so get to work creating.

I'm reading your solution to Elayne using disassembly method.
You mentioned to crack open the file "wsShell.swf"...
I don't understand it at all.
Can you elaborate "How TO"?
It would be quite helpful for a newbie.
Thanks a lot.

@4lucie

You dont need to do any of that, that part of the guide is just explaning how I figured it out. Skip down to the part marked "solution" and do it... there's no point repeating what I did in the "explanation" section, it's just a little elaboration on the method I used to figure out the protection. I only posted the "explanation" for people who were interested...it's not required to actually download the file.

@elayne
I'll get on these two videos right away.

And, to answer your next quastion, I only know HTML, CSS, php, sql, 32-bit assembly, and have a working knowledge of VB and C#. None of these languages would help me to write a plugin for IE, not to mention that I detest IE anyway....

Here's the first video:
http://www.imgag.com/product/full/ap/3081495/graphic1.swf

and the second:
http://www.imgag.com/product/full/ap/3114507/graphic1.swf

I'm working on a way to get the page info using IE... but for now these should work. After you open them, be sure to right-click and choose "Play", otherwise they won't start playing.

Okay, I found something obvious that makes this a lot easier.

See the links you gave me? Let's look at one of them:

See the number after the word "prodnum="? Copy that number down.

Now, type this text in your url bar:

Then, type in the number you copied down earlier:

Now add the following text to the end: "/graphic1.swf"

The final URL should read:

Now, press enter and go to this address. You should see a blank screen, but if you right click and select "Play", the video will play as usual. To download the video, go File>Save Page As.

This will work for any video on the site; simply find the number and use this method.

them to a regular video.Just in case you don't come up with
a program for this before the holidays, I want to wish you
a safe, happy and healthy holiday season.

hi. i read this thread and i learned a lot but this video still keeps me puzzled. i just cant download the swf vid from this site(which is extracted from some forum).http://flvs.daum.net/flvPlayer.swf?vid=qwbPHd601c8$

can u tell me which method above should i use? is this also a "container"? also, when the .swf file is actually downloaded to the disk, so we MUST open it with the flash player? can u convert it to flv file?
thnx!

Yes.

Yes; Google for a converter. There are a few decent free ones.

Yes.
No. You can open it with a flash-enabled web browser: IE, Firefox, Netscape...

You can rip the .flv from the .swf, and then convert it using one of these softwares.

--------------

Unfortunately, the URL and filename for the video are encoded (that's the character string at the end of the URL). This means that I can't find the video URL easily, without cracking the encryption somehow... and that's not exactly something I know how to do. Ripper, is this in your area of expertise?

I stumbled upon this thread through a Google search and I was wondering if someone could help me download this .swf: http://www.altonbrown.com/shun/shunvideo.swf

It's from this page: http://www.altonbrown.com/shun/shun_flv_sm.html

Every time I've gotten it to download it's only 34 to 36 kb (obviously not big enough) and it won't play (again, obviously). I've tried to apply the instructions from the other posters and I still can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated, as I'm hopelessly obsessed with Mr Alton Brown and I'd love to have the video on my hard drive.

This should be it. Keep in mind that its an FLV, so you need an flv player or converter.

Wow that's amazing. I'm just wondering how you managed to retrieve that URL, since I'm having trouble downloading a file on daum too.
