i messed up the hdd info on my box and after a few recordings it stops recognising the hdd and says no hdd. i have to keep opening the box and disconnecting the connector from the box to the hard drive. i bought a rs232 cable converter from maplins and connected it to my lead that was supplied and tried to download the firmware for the pvr box but it keeps saying lead not connected file not found

From what you say I think you have two problems. The cure for the first one is to goto the menu system and re-format the hard drive.Or if still probs try another drive.Set on Master.
The second problem is that you can use the usb lead supplied with the box to update your software, !!!Read the How to Upgrade PVR (USB or RS232) firmware!!! in the BOX PVR_E_v4500_06July file. What PC Connection do you have?

I also have a problem with my hard drive. Sometimes it records fine and other times when you try and play the recording back the screen freezes or it just records the sound. Pausing live TV is working OK though.

Hi
Yes the epg is a tad slow sometimes, especially when you first switch on.
I find its better when its been switched on for an hour. The software guys are doing a great job and gradually improving on it. I presently have version 4.506, 15th Oct 2007 and even that is a little slow.

Hi
Are you going into Menu/HDD Interface/Format, to try to format it? if so make sure the red line on the ribbon cable is next to the power connector also make sure your Hard drive is set to Master on the jumpers near the ribbon cable. Should be some pictures/info on the drive showing positions for Master, Slave and CS. If not you will have to do a google search for your drive make and specification to find these details.
Or you could set the drive to slave and format it on your PC, Then back to master for the PVR.

Hi
What about the ribbon cable (red line closest to power plug)? I'm running out of ideas now. Is this PVR new or old ie guaranteed or not? Can the seller help you with info about if it worked or not with a drive inside,? Is the hard drive new?, have you got another drive to try or borrow from a mate to try? If you can try another drive and its the same i'd suspect a faulty box. As a last request tell me what version of software it has installed : goto Menu/System setup/system info.

Hi
Sorry speedy, im out of ideas and suggestions, if you can't borrow another hard drive it looks like you won't be recording. You could try reflashing the same software in. How too and files in the link.

can someone help me i have been away for a few weeks and decided to delete and then scan for channels again but by doing this i have lost the ability to record. i remember that when you install the hard drive and switch the box on you need to keep some buttons on the box pressed for it to configure the hd and then it goes into countdown mode can anyone tell me how to do this.

Use the menu system and format the hard drive again.
Read back in this thread as it tells you how to do this

Check all your cables then try another hard drive. Or try formatting it on a PC

Hey jbvid - where did you get that firmware update?
The only one I can find anywhere is the July one... I'm tired of not being able to play back recordings on this thing. Well, I lie: SOME recordings will play back fine, others just freeze one second in. It's a lucky dip, and infuriating.
I've tried formatting and formatting again, re-fitting the hdd and reinstalling the firmware, but still the same result. I was hoping a later firmware update might be able to help.
Could it be that the hdd is too big? It's 320GB. Any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
The version of software you have will be ok as mine was fine with that version installed so you have another problem. One could be your signal strength not good enough for a continious unbroken picture (take out splitter) or connect box closer to the wall box supply with different shorter cable if you have some, and the other suggestion is to try another hard drive,
For the newer software : google satdownloads.

Just got the PVR and now am trying to format the 320GB harddisk I out in it. I have made sure its on master and all the connectors are correct. Problem is that it keeps only gettingas far as 48% and then starts in a loop back to 0%. Any ideas? Should I leave it for a certain amount of time? How long should a 320GB disk take to format?

Hi
Goto the link below into the Starview_PVR folder, D/L the latest firmware 4.506 15th 0ct then look and read in the Documentation folder about how to do it. Remove the H/D before installing firmware, then try before re-installing H/D.

Are there any release notes with this new version (BoxPVR_E_v4506_15Oct.bin)
or , if not, what's the noticeble difference between this firmware and the last one (BoxPVR_E_v4500_06Jul.bin)?
