ok well then that confirmed the theory that it works. but it doesnt specifically say to use the back up utility.not trying to demote your fidings cuz it is helpful. knowone wants to lose what they pay 4. I had to download everthing all over again and luckily i havent shared many of my games and took a chance on redownloadn warhawk cuz i reformated my drive after nothn else downloaded but warhawk, when i used the back up and restore utility. But thre estore was to a diff PS3 (60g to a 40g). after the format everthing downloaded fine. but i lost a warhawk download.

But I pose another question..... who has confirmed how many downloads u actually get. and does it count against u if its downloaded from the same PS3?

Isn't theory thought that you can connect your PC to your PS3 thru your internal network and copy the image files that you download via torrent into the PS3 hard drive, making it think it A) has a disc in it or B) was downloaded off the PSN.

In theory everything is possible. I've put many theories into practice and none of them work, straight 1:1 copy of a blu-ray, uploading a .PBP file to the net and download off the ps3, .PBP file on a shared linux/XMB partition on an external hard drive, dumped blu-ray with S.A.K
put dump in shared partition, etc etc etc, when it happens the world will know, then it will be fixed in a firmware update and we'll be back where we started.

One way to that i can think of to backup , is with Acronis True Image, if you remove the Internal PS3 HDD Connect it to a PC and take an Image with Acronis i believe that nothing will change, the data will remain intact for sure, now if the restore-image to a larger HDD will be a success that is a question that i can not answer.

OK HERE IT IS. BIGGER HARD DRIVES, EXTERNAL HARDDRIVES AND GAME COPYING
ok check it out. the ps3 hd uses the fat 32 file system. so here goes. go buy a big laptop Serial ATA hd, and plug it in to the ps3. turn it on and keep hitting ok until it formats the hd to the ps3 os. then to make an external hd system buy some external hd and hook it up to your computer, not your ps3. once the hd is connected to your computer go to start control panel, administrative tools, computer management and select disk manager on the left hand side. select the external hd and read the file system, its NTFS. Right click the disk and Select Delete Partition. you have to delet that to make room for your Fat 32 partition. However Windows xp cant format into fat32 so you will have to dl a program like "Swiss Knife" once you have that run it and select your hd and format to your likeing in fat32. or you can do it if you have an old pc with 98. hook it up and it will do it for you too. once done go into the hd and Creat 4 folders. "Photo" "Music" "Video" "Game" then fill till your hearts content. then hook it up to your ps3. and yes. you can download ps3 data off the ps network to it. like games and demos. and then you can connect it back to your computer and copy it to all your friends who followed this same guide

that maybe what the issue is. seems like you cant copy downloaded games to an external drive using the origianal OS for the ps3. I'll have to do some research on installing it some more. i have yellowdog but havent installed it. hesitant cuz i still want to use my ps3 in its origonal form and dont want to take a change on damaging something by installing linux.

You still cant access the PS3 XMB through linux,so i dont see how that would work, also could you clarify if your doing it with an external or internal harddrive.

You wont damage your PS3 by installing linux,Sony has allowed us to install linux,so its safe to do so.

A few things:
First, the PS3's XMB partition is encrypted, data on it cant be accessed by Linux OR by plugging it into a PC.
Also, PSN demos, games etc can be downloaded multiple times ( I think its 5 but it might be 3), but (as much as I hate the guys there) you can find direct download links over at ps3news.com for all of the content on all region stores. You can then download them and use a program called PS3proxy to get them onto your PS3.
