As the saying goes, 'a one stop shop for all your needs'. Hopefully this will point most in the right direction.

Sure, but young Loco takes the credit for the idea of the 'sticky stickies', just wish we'd done it sooner.

loco excellent resource thread!!!

if you feel its worthy i suggest adding SUPER to the encoder list, it has superior quality and a simple to use interface, if your an advanced user however it allows you to tweak the profile to your exact liking:D

http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

its epically great for portable devices..... and the best part is that its free

unfortunately its a bit behind on speed but honestly nothing to bad you'd have to worry about it!!!

great thread!

SUPER added although I think it is considered more of a conversion tool such as DVD Flick and ConvertXtoDVD. I've not used it to compress a DVD-9 to DVD-5 and don't know if it even has that capability.

Which of the tools there would be the best to convert 23.98 files to 25 with absolutely no artifacts?

Please suggest programas I don't have to write scripts for, as I am not familiar with such routines.

I haven't found a way without using AVIsynth as a frameserver to speed up the framerate correctly. There are many easier applications out there that resample the framerate to 25fps but this creates jerky video. The only true way to handle this conversion is to speed up the framerate slightly (23.876-->25). This is the way it is done in the studios.

You will also need to re-encode the audio to match the new duration of the video which will be about 4% faster. Aside from that you will also need to resize the video from 720 x 480 to 720 x 576 if your source is a DVD. If your source is a media file, you may need to do more like add borders etc.

I usually use Cinema Craft Encoder or TMPGEnc 4.0 XPress to do the encoding with AVIsynth doing the frameserving and filtering. If you don't like command line applications, you could try AVSedit, this is a GUI to write AVIsynth scripts for you.

Most of them use hardware instead of software to do that.

Until now I have been using programs, like Procoder 2 & 3 or TMPGEnc 4.0 Express to do that, which do all operations in one. But I have been having some "audio sync slides" on the 23.98 files which I don't quite understand. The sync seems to be "floating", even being more accurate on some times than others. Why would that be?

How would that be? I have 4.0 Express and AVYsynth, so I could try it.

That would be fine if I knew what do I have to write.
