I just saw a test on TV regarding the quality of cdr and dvdr media and there was hardly any noticable difference. I found out recently that burning at slow speeds, (no matter if its a 6x or 8x or whatever)gives me great quality, especially when burning movies.
In other words -slow burning gives great quality! Easy as pie! Just be a little more patient.

TheButch,

I'm mostly with you but sometimes it's just fun to crank one out at 20x. :D I've been burning at 8x speed for about 2 years now on everything SL, even tho the urge does sometimes overtake me to burn a little higher. ;)

As far as DL media goes.... I've used Ritek D01, Ritek S04, MKM 001, and MKM 003 and the better media is definitely the Verbies. NOT knocking the Riteks but I've had better success with the Verbies. I'll say this tho, "burning slower on the DL media is a smart thing to do."!! It'll save you headaches, discs, and cash. ;)

@greenie

I'm in agreement on the DL Verbs. I never burn them over 2.4X and it takes about 40mins, but as you say nary a coaster. And the Riteks are not nearly as good. On the other hand, I burn quite often, @16X with the NEC or Litey, for disc I do for family and friends, usually straight copy of SL in Nero Express either on the fly or to HDD first, w/o issues -probably 99% success. And the ones that I'm burning at X16 are ones better left to X8- Office Depot store brand(now defunct) Ricohjpn and Ritek SL. LOL I burn the TYs and Verbs I keep at 8X.

When I first started burning xBox backups, and full DVD backups on DL's I was told to use Verbs, I've had nothing but bad luck. Out of a pack of 10 that cost me near $30, I coasted 4.
Since I educated myself more on the topics and have been doing it for a while, I've turned to Memorex. Not only for their super cheap prices, but the quality is just as good as anything else I've seen. I can buy a 50 pack of Memorex DL's for $40 at my local store. Even if I coast several of them, they still cost 3x less than Verbs would have -- so coasters aren't as painful.

Just my 2 cents.

Out of curiosity what app are you burning the DLs with? both the verb and memorex. I don't get coasters with verb DL but if I find memorex DL I might try some if the price is right. Nothing out worth using a DL on.
