I'm not trying to upgrade my hard drive or do any other type of mod.

My home got a jolt the other night due to a lightning strike. After which, my Xbox, Gamecube and Dreamcast will no longer power up. Yes, they were all in a surge protector. Sucks huh? At least my PS2 survived.

A friend gave me his Xbox and I want to put the Drive from the old Xbox (which doesn't power up) and put it in the new Xbox.

I just want to be able to get my data off the drive. I switched them out and got the Dredded "ERROR 6!"

Is there a way to make one Xbox drive work in another Xbox?
If not, is there a way to get the data off the old drive and on the new drive?

Any help on this would be appreciated!

your xbox must be modded to switch hd's...and if you want to use a stock hd from another xbox the hd must be unlocked...you are getting error 6 because the hd is locked to the other motherboard...even if it were unlocked you would have to lock it to boot the retail bios and dash...you best bet would be just mod the xbox.

    The Drive didn't get zapped.

The Xbox doesn't power up at all.

The hard drive must be working since it gave me an Error 6

Is there any way to get the data off the old drive besides using it's "owner xbox" to boot it up?
Would switching AC board cause a problem?

(ok im assuming that the ac board is the power supply)

no i dont think so.... i have nothing to back that up though.

u cant switch hdds on unmodded boxs'

i still dont completely understand though.... you said that your xbox wont boot up at all, but you also said that it gave you error code 6?

(if you put your hdd in another xbox, or vice versa then ofcoars error code 6. hdd locked means hdd is locked to the mobo literally.)

Even if I hook the drive to a computer... Windows or Linux?

    Has anyone see this?

Is it possible that this would work by allowing me to use the old HD in the new Xbox?

slightly off topic but ya it should. (assuming you have a modded box)

There's nothing special about the drive. It's the data I want.

I hardly ever play my Xbox, but Walmart had a sale on Burnout 3 for $18. I bought the Xbox one over the PS2 one (for a change) and I was in the middle of playing it when the Xbox fried. I would just rather not start over.

But it seems that is my only real choice right now.
