I have a cable modem and 4 ethernet port router. I connect 2 PC's and my xbox to the router everything worked find. I recently tried connecting a second xbox to the router and tried getting on to xbox live but ran into problems. The first xbox that was connected to the router cannot connect to xbox live. I ran trouble shooting, it detected the cable, isp, and dns was fine. It suggested I make sure the router is compatible with xbox live (thats not the problem cuz it worked before). It also suggested I configure my router and raise the MTU's to 1500 whatever that means. The second xbox I connected works fine on xbox live. Can someone help me?

It could be that both xbox's are being assigned the same default IP address, which your router is sending to the xbox live server. The problem comes when the server sends the info back to your xbox, and your router dosen't know which xbox to recieve, so it kicks one off. There are some routers that work well with any number of xbox's, but most are way too expensive for your ordinary xbox live user.

Try switching the cables to different ports in your router. Also try unplugging your router and all cables from it, leave it to reset for around 5 minutes and plug it back in to clear it out. Another option is to upgrade (or possible downgrade) your firmware, you will have to check with your routers make/model to see what latest firmware is available.

And hate to do this, but not to insult you, it does happen. Are you using two different gamertags with each xbox?

I found out the problem I was using a hub instead of a router. So I purchased the D-Link Router and everything works perfectly. Me any my 2 brothers each have xbox live accounts and one extra account for our friends. Now we can play Halo2 on 2 T.V.s. -No more 4way split small screens.
