search for a program called aray scanner and have it scan the disc. It tells you what kind of protection is on it. Then search to see if there's a way to back it up with that type of protection.

DVDs are a lot simpler than PC games to backup. With DVDs you rip off the protection and burn (compress if necessary). PC games, you have to rip off the protection, but put it back on when you burn it so it gets tricky.

hey guys im new around here and just caught this thread , i too have san andreas ,and its in pc-dvd rom format. when i scanned it with array it says it has securom but alcohol dont seem to be able to deal with securom on a dvd. i decrypted it with decrypter and it made a copy, but when i burned it it said it needed the real disk. so it didnt copy the securom protection right , i also tried it with anydvd/clonedvd with no luck man any suggestions would be great im trying to get it done right if i do ill let ya know! thanks guys

o and my burner is a toshiba odd sd-r 5272 it makes copies of all securom and safedisk up till now im sure it has somwthing to do with the dvd format being coupled with securom ! i think anyways lol any ways thanks for any and all help !

The new version of A120 is supposed to support DVDs, not sure about PC-DVD-ROM games though.

macrovision and securerom?? Damn they're trying hard!!

Do you have anydvd? If not, there's a 21-day free trial and it runs in the background and gets macrovision protection off movies along with all other movie protections out there. Not sure if it'll work with PC games, but definitely worth a shot.

Also, you may notice that the game takes forever to read. This is normal I believe and a few burners out there can do it faster, although it's still pretty slow. My LiteOn 811S can do it faster (I think it's called half-sheeping or something-sheeping). Do a Google search if you want to find out more on this stuff.

WELL, ive tried to no avail. what i did was take alcohol did a high precisosin read to get the securom copied then , i took dvd decrypter and used it to get rid of macrovisosin . lol it still didnt work so i guess untill someone else comes up with a good idea ill just have to be careful with my original dvd-rom having to have the cd in to play realy is stupid man. take a cue from half life 2 and doom3 man make it play without a cd . why not everyone else will find a no cd crack for it anyways LOFL . lemme know if anyone figures this gta out man !

did you try anydvd or dvd43? I doubt that will work but it's worth a shot. Have one of them (not both) running in the background while you rip with A120.

I have just backed up San Andreas (DVD) using latest alcohol 120%. You need to tick DPM box and set to high (in drop down box).Burn the image. Dont forget to enable RMPS (in emulation options)and to leave alcohol open (on) in the background when you try the disc. This is the only way possible at the moment. Have fun!

    Hey,
thanx a million geoff68 it worked like charm, now i can put my disk up and play the back-up with no worries. dont mind having to use alcohol in the background as it doesnt take up any resources at all. man tht was a toughy lol. if any one figures out a perfect way to 1:1 copy this let me know ill keep trying but for now this is perfect thanx ALOT!.

When you make this backup do you need to use a DVD-R with a DVD burner or just a regular CD-R in a CD burner? I am making a lot of coasters with this one! Any help would be appreciated. Is this crappy sony burner the problem?
    take care everyone.

Yeah thats what I figured. I got the latest version of A120. (well I think it is. Version number is the same but whenever I run it, it asks if i want to update.)

Maybe the problem is my Sony burner. Has anyone ever had any luck using this burner to backup a DVD game? I think i was using some Sony DVD-Rs that came with it. Maybe I need to go get some of the ones recommended in other READ FIRST forums.

    thanks for the info!

It definitely wouldn't hurt. May be a reason you're having issues, but there's probably something else going on there.

Well I now have the Plextor 712 DVD burner and some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R image will still not burn. A120 still gets stuck on this "Initializing - Empty Disc" window. It has an elapsed time counter that continues to run indefinately. Any ideas?

I'm not too sure about this, but I know that when you copy CD PC games, with some copy protections (like Doom 3's protection, SafeDisc I think it is) only certain burners can handle it. Others will just take forever, and probably not turn out good copies.

    Hey ,
gamer you should go for a lite-on or plextor they seem to be the best with safedisc 2/3 my phillips takes forever i mean 45 minutes to burn a game, but with my new lite-on from wal-mart no less it burns safedisc in a matter of 5 to 8 minutes with awesome results !

it also does very well with high precision reads like san andreas , securom is not a problem with lite-on! anyways hope you get it figured out gamer!@

also just for refrence i used a dvd-rw memorex and burnbed at 2x with awesome results!@

    Hey spidrbone

thanks for the advice. I got the plextor 712A. It has been great so far. San Andreas is the first game I have had problems with. I think maybe I had a bad bin file. I will go through the process of making another one soon and try again. I have gotten past the first problems I listed earlier. Now it goes through the burning process, but then says "Error in recording", then it stops and I have a nice new coaster!

I did an aray scan on San Andreas and it showed up as having no protection. So I'm thinking any burner could do that.
