O.K. I for one loved the 98 Screensavers. But I have Windows XP Home, and honstilly we all know that XP looks better, and is just better all together than 98. So does anyone know how to get the 98 screensavers back? or were you can download them?

    Thanks alot in advance jaehomo

Go to a working 98 machine. Look for .SCR. Copy them and put them in the same directory in XP that has the .SCR files. Try to run them. Some will work with no problem. others will give an error that a file could not be found. Write down that file name. Go back to the working 98 machine. Search for the file and copy it to the same place you put the .scr files on the XP machine. Repeat that until all missing files are copied over and all the screen savers are working. Good luck finding them for D/L, Use Google for that.

I never really cared for themes. I do know they will be a bit more complicated to move over. You would need to find the JPG or BMP, Pointers, Screen saver, sounds and so on. I do not know the main theme file extension. Not really sure if XP will run them anyway do very little to my desktop appearance sine it is not a vital function. Perhaps someone else will have an idea on how to do that.

Ok I put the .scr's in there and these are the oens that did not work.

    Dangerous Creatures.scr
    Inside your Computer.scr
    Jungle.scr
    Baseball.scr
    Leonardo da Vinci.scr
    Mystery.scr
    Nature.scr
    Space.scr
    Sports.scr
    The Golden Era.scr
    Travel.scr
    Underwater.scr

I try to use them (Right click, Properties, Screen Saver) and they do not work, but also throw no error up. How can I find the error so I know what files I need.

The ones that work, are some of the best ones lol.

Thanks alot for your help del, and anyone else that is helping me alone.

I am not exactly sure where you can find the error. You can check your system log in XP. Right click "My Computer" and select manage. Click on event viewer. Check both system and application for any errors that look like they belong to the SCR files. If you find one double click it to read the contents. In there it may say what file is missing. For a quicker reference clear both logs (say No to saving it) Try to run a non working screen saver again and see if a new report shows up in the logs. These events may not be logged at all so don't be surprised if you don't find one.

You may want to go back to the Win98 Computer and find the exact directory those came out of. I think they are in a different place from the main ones. Go to that folder and look for other files that may go with them.

I could not find any files in the manage.

So I went back to the 98 PC and also found no files that went with them. I took some pics to show you the files to see if maybe you could see a file that im not seeing.

Ok that did clear some things up for me. Here is your unworking List.
    Dangerous Creatures.scr
    Inside your Computer.scr
    Jungle.scr
    Baseball.scr
    Leonardo da Vinci.scr
    Mystery.scr
    Nature.scr
    Space.scr
    Sports.scr
    The Golden Era.scr
    Travel.scr
    Underwater.scr

In those screen shots you posted you can see they carry a different Icon from the other screen savers. Its been awhile since I have looked at this stuff on a 98 machine. These names all sound familiar to me and now I know why. The reason the icons are different is most likely because they are not SCR files. These are themes. The only way to get them to work is to have all their components on your computer. They will be in various places and will take time finding them. Curious though, What is the extension for those files?

extention? how do you find that? They are all .scr's

Also If it comes to finding every file for it off my computer, how would I go about doing that? Like what exactly would I be looking for?

I dont know if this what you were getting at but,

For the themes that are there, they have screensavers

Example: Dangerous Creatures has a theme, also has a screensaver and the screensaver does not work

Example: Flying threw windows does not ahve a theme, but there is a screensaver and it works.

The only one that seems to work is, The 60's era, the theme and the screensaver work.

Also, I have every theme working on my XP pc right now.

Thanks alot for your time, Nasty1332

Would not be in your program files. I am trying to figure out why those have different icons from the other SCR files. If they have the same extension they should have the same icons. Besides I saw you reposted this to address half the issue discussed in here.

Want to install all the screensavers mentioned.

    Start-Settings-control panel-add/remove programs-window setup

you can now choose the Themes setup and all the screensavers you want. Be sure to have your Windows 98 Dsik available
