avicodec gives me this message. "Opening error No combination of filters could be found to render the stream" when I check an mpeg-2 file. The movie plays in Media Player Classic but not Windows Media Player. I downloaded the movie from Internet Archive: Feature Films. What can I do next?

usally if u download a DivX bundle or an Xvid bundle it should play it just make sure u download the most up to date version of it

those 2 if on the pc should pick up all the video types and Windows Media Player will use them once it is installed

Well XviD most certainly doesn't include MPEG2 decoding. DivX might now since I believe there is an option MPEG2 encoding plugin.

Media Player Classic has a built in MPEG2 decoder.

What can you do next? Keep using MPC or install a dshow MPEG2 decoder if you want it to playback in WMP, etc.

Can you recommend a Direct Show MPEG2 decoder to me? I don't want to add too much junk that isn't necessary.

    As I was saying,

I just ran the mpeg file (movie Charade) thru GSpot and got this.
"Failed to connect output pin on mpeg splitter to input pin on filter. Error 0x80004003 invalid pointer" Can anyone translate for me?

Have downloaded other mpeg2 movies from this site, run them thru divxtodvd to make a folder VIDEO-TS and burned on DVD. Have not had a problem before Charade.
