First welcome to the forum. Please do not double post as it is against the forum rules.

Now down to your question...Are you copying avi formats to dvd compliant formats then burning to dvd?

Are you able to watch the dvd on your pc and standalone, or not able to watch the dvd at all. I don't want to assume so could you be more specific with type of media used, burn speed..etc. If you have a successful burn the only way you would need to shrink is if the converted file was too large to fit on your blank dvd media. Most programs used to burn dvds will tell you before starting if there is enough space for your burn or will state automatically shrink (compress which results in some quality loss)to fit disk. Hope that helps you with the answer you are looking for but if not someone will be around to sort out your issue.

Ok when i convert it on divx to dvd converter it converts but then when i go to burn it on copy to dvd it gives me a error but when i try it on nero it burns but won't play on my dvd player only plays in the pc is there a way to convert and burn with nero? It's just odd how it burns onto the disc with nero and it won't burn onto the disc with copy to dvd. Also it won't let me use a dvd+r cd on a cdr disc to burn on is there a reason for that??

You mean a dvd+r dvd? Use nero vision express to convert your image and burn to dvd. If you are using a dvd+r bookmark it as a dvd-rom and most players will see it as a dvd-r. Refer to the guides tab at the top of the page and easy to follow instructions on burning. Not sure of the issue with copy2dvd. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/burning_dvd_with_nero.cfm

The linked guide above should get you on the road to burning soon. Post your results as more experienced folks will chime in soon as the servers are fixed.

In reference to bookmarking a dvd+r read the second reply to this link

what i am saying is on divx to dvd after i convert and when it goes to burn it won't let me use a dvd+r cd it only allows me to put in a cdr. Also on nero i have nero express is that the same thing as nero vison express or no? I am having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to burn these avi's so i can play them on a dvd player

Ok you mean you cannot use a dvdr only a cdr. What type of burner do you have as it seems it may not like dvd+r or not like your brand of media. Verbatims and Taiyo yuden are the blank dvd media of choice of folks in the forum for the most part.

basically they do the same thing. There is a way using nero recode that will convert the avi file so it plays in your stand alone player.

Sounds like your burning a vcd and does your stand alone player support vcd format.

make sure you are using nero in dvd-video mode not cd mode ( at the top of nero start smart screen you should see some titles you can highlight..choose dvd-video and the menu that will pop up in the middle of the nero box will give you dvd options)
