I successfully converted a DVD to a ratDVD and I was able to see the video preview during the conversion process. I used default settings (95) though I did remove a few extras like spanish/french audio tracks. I double click on the file and WMP10 launches and appears to play the file. However, I do not see any video or hear any audio. The same is with Zoom Player. The video timeline keeps progressing but I don't see any video or hear audio. Any help to trouble shoot this? I have an AMD 64 3400+ cpu w/1 GB RAM & ATI AIW 9600XT. Reasonably modern computer.
One more thing: I noticed the previous post and coincidentally the user was trying the same DVD I was trying - "The Incredibles". I think the encoding went fine since I was able to see the video in the preview window. Something must be wrong with the playback.
Hello, i have the same problem with another movie. (it was my first time trying, and as the encoding is to long 8-9 hours, i don't know if i will try again ratDVD) bye
I have the same problem, and I also tried "The Incredibles". I have tried many different media players that are mentioned on the website, and have had no luck. I hope somebody helps us soon!
hello its me again. i made another endcoding for testing. I used 55 for the quality instead of the 95 per default. And then the .ratDVD was readable by WMP10. The problem is that the quality of the video is very bad and the size of the file is already 1.45 Gb. It's not acceptable! I should make other tries... To conclude : This make me think that when the .ratDVD file is not readable it is due to a too high quality used in ratDVD. bye
Ratted a pair of DVDs @ 95, both play fine on my system : Win2k + Latest sp + Security updates WMP 9 (plays RATs) Intervideo WinDVD (won't play rat, so why do we need it) BSplayer (won't play rat, but owns for other formats) MediaPlayerClassic (sucks) AMD Sempron @ 1.8ghz 512 mb ram 2x80mb WD IDE HDs w/8mb cache each Radeon 9200 SBLive Value movies play, although with the occasional lag that's to be expected from a brand-new custom codec with zero optimizations as of yet. I'll also note that the only real test of an encoder for me is live concert footage (even the best consumer-grade encoders can't handle smoke well). Between this ands DVDshrink (which I use to rip the VOBS , but not compressing them) I think I may have a pretty good team This program mainly grabbed my attention because it made a good compact *storage* format for my rare concert DVDs. It would be a pity if all the users were so concerned about watching the ratfiles when it's main use seems to be storage/transport. Gibz! [RECCA]
Technically I don't need to backup my discs at all, except that I got 3 completely psycho cats who can't stop wrecking shit. That having been said, I'm sure your suggestion would be to DVDShrink to an ISO and burn as data. That's all well and good, and believe me I have thought of this before. Let's however, look at the facts (as I see them) : 01) DVDshrink does not put the files into a container format. 02) DVDshrink can't make even a 3.4gb disk shrink to 900mb and still look good *at default settings with no "enhancements" 03) DVDshrink can't even keep a clean source clean when *re-authoring to 0% compression* I use shrink an awful lot really (40+ discs of anime and 10+ asian horror films can't be wrong), but RatDVD looks like it could become quite a useful addition to my "video toolkit". My oppinions won't be changed by other users/dissatisfied users/etc. RATdvd may be the best thing *since* dvdshrink, and can certainly be a nice companion program to shrink. It's not a replacement, and IMO doesn't claim to be. [recca421]
Hell recca421 It's Ok if you're satisfied with RatDVD. For me : i've used ratDVD for a 2 hours movie (all with bonuses) and by default the file size is 3Gb. So I've changed default values to 55 quality and obtained a 1.5Gb video file which is horrible to play (big squares). So it's hard for me to believe that you can obtain with default values a 900Mb file which still looks good. But if you say it... Bye
I too cannot see video, but I can hear the audio. I was told that maybe removing some codecs would help, but it didn't. Also if I do get this to ever play video, it WILL work in WinAMP 5.x for sure (I only have WinAMP5, but I bet 2.x/3.x too).
ive been trying to come up with a good reason for a rat dvd. lets see its not the quality, its the size right. hmm..i wonder size for size if it matches xvid for quality..oh but i dont get the menus..but with menus and quality to its pushing dvd size? i did come up with a reason to use it and its not for downloading..i dont want ur screwed up lowqual rat just give me a dvd i got cable..but anyway, heres a legitamate excuse for its existance.:: if ur moving to another country and want to bring all ur dvds with you there could be a problem at customs dragging a box of freshly burned flicks with you lol...so rat them all and put them on a couple of big hardrives and stick them in ur box..there ya go! mission accomplished...just playin..i'm trying it for the first time now
