i am not qiuete sure what firmware is but from reading many posts i have come to the conclusion that it is some type of software that allows a burner to recognize media that is able to be burnt at 2x. this is my problem. i have read these message boards and the other message boards at dvd-x copy and seen that many people have been having problems when backing up dvd movies. when using the so called cheap media like princo the movie may freeze half the way through or something is wrong with the sound and so on. when these same people burn at 1x they mostly do not get the problem. now i have been using cheap media for a while and burning on my pioneer a-04 at 1x and have recieved no problems. i have burned many dvd and ps2 games. but like everybody else i would like to not have to wait so long maybe half the time so am thinking about buying 2x media. but what really is pissing me of(sorry about the language) is that almost all the cheap media out there that so called burns at 2x almost all of them require a firmware upgrade. furthermore when i have read the posts of most of the people who have bought this media that can burn at 2x and upgraded there firmware. most have had many coasters and some have even damaged there burners. which brings me to the conclusion that ma'ybe the manufacturers of these media are some sob and are lying out of there teeth that the media can burn at 2x. so all i can say is if any of you own a pioneer a-04 or simler dvd burner and have upgraded your firmware to 1.31 or other and have burnt at 2x on cheap media with no coaster please post here and give many of us faith again. thanks
