I decided to test ratdvd yesterday, since it seemed a good alternative for divx in the future of filesharing and backup. I tested ratdvd on its default settings that it installs with. The movie I tried to "rat" was Fight Club, and the compression required several hours, approximately 6.

This morning I decided to test the file:

Sound quality: good/excellent(didn't have much time to test)
Video Quality: What I could see was not bad, but that's just what I could see. The screen was mainly covered with what looked like a lot of green boxes everywhere.

Recommendation: Don't try to burn movies on standard quality that have a lot of screen changes or flickerings. I'll try again on highest quality settings.

This sounds more like a problem with the source material than with the quality settings. Did you use the original ripped movie or some "shrinked" version?

I would recommend to rip it again and try with standard settings. Should work fine (did for me-also tried Fightclub).

I used the original DVD that I bought, which had no scratches. Might be my shitty dell. I guess ratDVD is either inconsistant or I just had a messed problem with the system.

Or....I remember that my computer overheats a lot(very warm room and hot graphics card), so maybe it was a heat issue.

I ratDVDed my Fight Club. Worked great. There were times I thought that it had messed up the sequence of the movie. Then I remembered that the movie was like that...all fucked up. Great movie....

One thing I have noticed though is that ratDVD takes out alot of brightness from the movie. I did Kung Fu Hustle...and it did not do a good job. I think I need to keep everything at high level.

Ahh yes. The copy protection would do that. Great that you figured it out!
