i can't get my home made videos to play smoothly. they're uploaded on to my computer into mpeg clips. when i choose to view them on either quicktime or windows media player they are jerky...especially when the video clip starts, and it sometimes freezes later on if a long clip. the audio carries on playing fine.
but if i download a video clip off a website it seems to be fine.
ive tried disabling anti-virus programs in case of conflict when running the videos but no difference.

    my specs are:
    Windows XP Professional
    200gb hard drive
1gb physical memory (of which 700mb is free)
Nvidia Geforce FX5500 graphics card 256mb DDR
    AMD Duron 800Mhz processor
    directX 9

the video clips run fine on my friends pc so i know the clips aren't bad in themselves.
this has driven me insane and no one seems to have the answer!
    PLEASE HELP ME!! :-(

Well it could be because your PC is Very Old and Slow....

I know that when I had my old P-3 800mhz PC that I had problems Playing Mpeg files at Full Screen, especially Mpeg-2 files...

When Playing back these Files check your CPU Useage and if it stays at close to 100% while Playing back the Files then that is what your Problem is....

You know for about $100 you could Upgrade your Lowly 800mhz PC to a Nice Fast Athlon XP 2900+ or a Sempron 3000+ and that is Includeing a New Motherboard and add another $39 and you can throw in a 16X Dual Layered DVD burner.....

    Cheers

hey Minion, reckon you could be right! i know my pc processor is running close to 100% so its the only thing left thats slowing me down...my pc was built for me in 2000 and i have slowly upgraded parts, so i think my processor is next in line.
thanks for your advice. unless anyone has any other theories...this is what i 'll do! :)
    cheers!

I suggest you look on TigerDirect.com or E-Bay or NewEgg.com for a New Motherboard/CPU Combo as that is were you will Find the Best deals and you will Most Likely have to Upgrade both your CPU and the Motherboard as I suspect your Motherboard will not support a 2.0ghz to 3.0ghz CPU and if your Present PC is Running SDRam you will have to upgrade it to DDR ram.....

Right now on TigerDirect you can get a New Abit Socket A Motherboard with an Athlon XP 2900+ CPU for $99 which is a Deal you will not Find anywere...
The Motherboard has Support for an 8X AGP so you can Install a Fast Video Card and it also has 6 Channel Audio and support for Both ATA/133 Hard Drives and SATA Hard Drives in a Raid Configuration, the Board also supports up to 2.0GB of DDR 400 Ram....

You can Check out this Deal on this Page:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...EdpNo=1197962&sku=MBM-KV7V-2900&CMP=ILC-FPM08

If I were you I would go for that as soon as you can because this Deal is not going to last, You can also Pick up a New 16X Dual Format Dual Layered DVD Burner for $37 on this Page:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1159842&Sku=A457-4012

And you Can Get 512mb of DDR 400 Ram for $29 which is as cheap as you will ever Find DDR ram:

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...?EdpNo=586829&sku=ult30215&CMP=ILC-FPM09.....

So for about $165 you can Upgrade your PC to a Athlon XP 2900+ with 512mb or Ram and a Dual Layered DVD Burner and you could Probably sell your used 800mhz CPU and Motherboard with it"s Ram for maybe $75 to $100 which means you would Probably all in all Pay $100 Max for the Whole Upgrade from your Old Slow PC to a New Fast PC...

    Cheers
