I can see from reading the forum that problems abound with this contraption.

I've had mine for 6 months and apart from being a bit noisy [and the mono sound] it performed admirably, even transferring my old vinyl lp's collection onto cd, but then nothing....it won't read any dvd+rw's recorded or blank, it still recognises all cd-r's and some dvd-r's.

    Anyone any ideas?

... Mine is picky about the brand of DVD+RW that I use ... If it's made by CMC, forget about it ... Use Verbatim or Sony discs and you should be OK ... as far as the mono tuner ... I use my spare VCR's tuner and everything is fine ...

.. By the way ... I've had my LVW-5005 for 11 months now and it's held up very well to almost constant use ..

I've been using memorex dvd+rw's and they've worked fine, up till now. Same brand dvd-r's wouldnt work though! I normally just run the audio through my hi-fi to bypass the sound problem.

I could understand it if upgrading the firmware had led to a problem, but I hadn't. The thing just gradually stopped reading the disks for no apparent reason.

... If you click on the url at the bottom of my sig, you will see (if you scroll down to Memorex) that Memorex +RW (and -RW) media is made by a variety of manufacturers - some very good (Ricohjpn) and some pretty terrible (CMC) - In other words not all Memorex media is created equal .. this is why myself (and most other AD members do not recommend using Memorex ...

I just bought one of these machines and it wont read the new movie" hitch" the wife bought, it skips and freezes eventually requiring unpluging to restart. It will play some of the older dvd's the neighbor has.

'Hitch' has been a noted problem for a number of DVDRs made by Lite-On. It played fine in my 5006 but I had to coax my Ilo (made by LiteOn) into playing it(by removing and reinserting the movie a few times before it took). Other than 'hitch' both machines have played everything, so don't despair.

I had a go video and returned it because of this same movie, which is how I wound up with the light on machine,
    FRUSTRATION
I just got of the phone with level 1 support and when the level 2 crew comes in on tuesday I can call back and they will send the updates for this machine.
    freaking machines.
I say we go back to crayons and butcher paper.
