I have a large number of DVDs containing less than 1.5Gb (45 minutes or less)of video. I want to back them up by putting the contents of 3 DVDs onto a 4.7Gb DVD, preferably with a menu. If I copy the vob files onto HDD the try to write in Roxio DVD Builder, I often lose sound. If I rip the DVD then convert vob to avi, I often get only 1 vob file to a DVD, whether with DVD Builder or Ulead Studio 8. Any clues anyone?
I would suggest you use DVD Shrink, if you do not have it then try http://www.filepedia.com and look under rippers. Here is a guide for joining episodes, and dvd files together. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Making a episode DVD with DVD Shrink.pdf http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/clips guide.html You can also use Nero Vision Express which will allow you to make a simple menu. get rid of roxio. Once the files are on your hard drive they will more or less be in a mpeg2 compatible format.Shrink is ideal and getting 2 or 3 movies to disc with a 6 sec gap between them is great but no menu (have i got to date to work ).However as the files are in mpeg2 try changing to TMPGENC DVD AUTHOR.This program will allow you edit your compilation, add menus, and as it supports dual layered discs you should have about 8.4 gig to play around with instead of the 4.7 gig.I mean instead of 3 movies try getting 5 on.
