Hi all I want to buy a DVD rec next week to: 1) archive old VHS tapes 2) Record Sky+ programmes The choice is: 1) Panasonic E55 - cheapest but need to buy a DVD rec for PC which reads RAM (editing purposes 2) JVC 10Sl - apparently v.good picture quality in 4 hour mode. 2) Panasonic E85 - most expensive but with hard drive - editing at source. Anyone use any of these machines or can recommend? Thanks for any help. S
If transfering VHS to DVD or general program recording is your goal. You should look at the LiteOn Or Ilo 04 made by LiteOn. Get a unit with hard drive if you can. These units can be hacked, I do not belive that the ones mentioned can.
... According to Digital FAQ, the JVC is the best ... and the Panasonic models are NOT recommended ... http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/buyerguides/dvdrecorders/dvdrecorders.htm ... I sure like my LiteOn LVW-5005 ... ... I've heard of lots of problems with their LVW-5045 (harddrive model) ...
Sgfuk To often many sites and reviews try to sell a specific product. I have a Ilo DVDRGD04 and has a 80 gb HDD. Basicly its the same as the LiteOn 5045 with 160 gb HDD Yes there are those that claim problems but there are also many that say they have no problems I have the latest [Hacked] firmware and do not have any problems. As I said, If the transfer of protected VHS ?[or]? to DVD and also recording general programing, is you goal, you should look to the LightOn/ilo [WITH HARD DRIVE]and HACK.
Thanks again, It's getting to be a bit of a minefield - the more research I do the more problems I seem to find. I guess that none of the players are going to be perfect (especially with a limited budget). I was keen on the Panasonic E85 - but have since learnt of a "U99 problem" - basically it locks up when trying to divide when the HDD is more than 50% full. Like you say some people can have no problems at all with there machines. I need to make up my mind soon though as my Sky+ is filling up pretty quickly!! Cheers S
