Hello, I am totally green when it comes to networks. My buddy who lives down the street has DSL. If he stands outside my house he can get a signal on his laptop. We came up with the idea of splitting the cost, and sharing the signal. I am not sure what I need to do. What I want is to be able to run three computers inside of my home off of the signal. Can I place an antenna on my roof that is connected to a router that will then send a signal to my pc's inside the house? Would I need to run wires from the router on the roof to each of the pc's or would I need wireless cards installed in each unit? Would I be able to share printers and scanners with this type of system? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the site. That site is huge. I looked over it for quite a long time and couldn't find anything really. I am sure it's there, I just don't know where to look. Like I said that site is HUGE!
What can I do to make it work? Place an antenna on his end as well? I know there are people who have setup neighborhood networks using wireless systems. I just don't know what equipment is needed.
the neighbor hood network requires everyone to buy a router which pretty much defies the whole purpose. i think you should stick to you own network, it would be easier.
That is what I am asking, What do I need, just a router? I am not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
