I have never been able to get Nero to Burn with my laptop. I've tried all the advice on laptop problems on AfterDawn forums i could find. I don't even remember all that i've done, but nothing has changed. It will transcode, etc. but once it gets to the actual burning nothing happens and it ejects the disc.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron 9100, Nero 6, and a mad dog external dvd burner connectd via USB.

    HELP!

    Here's the log file:

Can you record anything on your external burner. What i mean can you burn data onto a disk? Also CMC Mag disk's are more than likely your problem. Try investing in some better quality media. Have you updated the firmware for your drive? This alows you to be able to reade/write to all the different media out there..

    Cheers

    Thanks for the reply.

I have updated the firmware. And I also have tried other solutions for the SCSI errors from the Error Burning with External DVD-Writer and USB2 (SCSI command aborted) thread/forum. I can burn with other programs/Roxio DVD Builder. But I prefer Nero b/c of it's menu creations, but I still can't get it to burn.

    Red Flag Red Flag

Running ROXIO on same computer as Nero. Roxio products do not play well with others. Getting rid of all traces posses an additional pain.

Burning movies onto DVD's using an external is another concern. Using a internal burner is best for larger files, if I remember right. Something about the data transfer rate for such a large file.

Also, "Mad Dog" products, while inexpensive, are not always a good deal.

As Buik has already pointed out running burning apps on the same computer can and usually does cause problems. I would recommend you remove all burning software from your computer and use the clean tools the both Roxio and Nero provide at there websites to get everything off. Then load the newest version of Nero and also install a ASPI layer http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...duct/ASPI-4.70&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe&sess=no

Then give it another try. One other thing do not install InCD when you install Nero this can also cause conflicts and you really don't need it anyway...

I have had the same problem. Sent it back in Sept, got a 'refurbished' unit in Oct. Previously could not write anything using about 5 different packages. Now Im able to write at 2X speed. Definitely will not work at 16X. I'll try 4X one day...

HELLO I'M GETTING SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH MY PIONEER 109 DVD BURNER & NERO 6.6.0.16. IT TRANSCODE BUT WHEN IT STARTS TO BURN IT STOPS AT AROUND 10%-12% STATING BURNING FAILED AT 2X & THEN IT EJECTS THE DISC. FUNNY THING IS THIS BURNER IS 16X BUT I COULD ONLY CHOOSE TO BURN AT 1X OR 2X. I'M ALSO CONNECTING VIA USB TO IDE CABLE ON MY TINY LAPTOP WITH P3 1GHZ.

    PLEASE HELP1

FYI - about a year ago I bought a mad-dog burner from compusa. It was the cheapest priced external burner I culd find at the time. The problem you are describing sounds alot like what happened when I had mine. IT NEVER WOULD FINISH A BURN. Its been a long time ago - so I dont remember the error message.

In hind site - I figured a few things out:

One problem was - it only had a USB connector (did not have a firewire connector). The comp I had at the time did not have USB2 software - only usb-1 - which if you have that - you can forget about it - the exchange of info for burning movies is just too large if you are dealing w/ a usb1. Could this be your problem?

The next is - sometimes you do get what you pay for. I sure did - I took that burner back the day after I bought it. Since then I have changed computers (my new one does have all usb2 - which is pretty standard now). I have changed burners but I do not have any issues with being able to burn - as long as I use the firewire or the usb2.

MSG FOR ZHELPZ, THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK. I WILL LOOK INTO THIS AS I'M RUNNING VIA USB1 TOO. LIKE YOU SAID THIS MAYBE CAUSING THE PROBLEM.

THANK YOU FOR NOT BEING TOO PETTY ABOUT THE TYPE/FORMAT OF MY MSG. TRUE FORUM ETIQUETTE.

    REGARDS

    pingu,

No problem I hope you are able to work around your issue - I do not know how to upgrade from usb-1 to usb-2 but [bold]I Believe - dont quote me on this - you MIGHT just need to DL some software - one of the more technically advanced members may know the specifics about that.[/bold]

PS - I would not get too wrapped up in the all-caps debate - remember - everyone here, is here to help you - many of these ppl have been around the forums a long time - if you get too bogged down w/ "debating" other ppl may not offer their help.

I dont think creaky was fussing at you, I just think you misunderstood what he was trying to tell you.

Either way - lets see if getting that faster connection will help. Your burner could very well be ok (i am presuming the burner itself is equipped with the [bold]usb2[/bold]. I have a feeling, now knowing that your comp is only usb-1 that - it is your real issue - I still could be wrong though.

Knock off the all caps messages - it's against forum rules not to mention hard on the eyes.

@pingu8 - being as i'd just this second copy/pasted my findings into the other thread, here goes ...

    - firmware's up to date

    - that question maek is ok as it looks like the burner is external to the PC

    - wow where's all the free memory gone - you're gonna have to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning

    - oh dear - something isn't being done correctly at the encoding stage

    - nice media

    - sorry i'm sure this has a real meaning - i just think it's a classic, funny error

    - splat!. free up more memory and investigate what you're doing wrong at the encoding stage.. then use 'simulation burns' to further test without wasting blank discs. when you go to hit 'burn', untick burn and tick 'simulation'. Nero will go thru the motions with a blank disc and generate a log entry
