What is this VP3 for QuickTime thing?

What is VP3 codec? I read about it and is it better than H.264? I also heard about VP5? I don't understand. I have QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows Public Preview. Where can I find some of these VP3 videos or how do I use it? Can someone explain a little bit please.
