Hi, My sons XBox was recently taken out by a lightening storm (they didn't plug it into the surge protector). It will not power on at all. I am assuming it is the PSU and have ordered a replacement to test it. The box is a V1.4 (perhaps 1.5) console with a FoxLink power supply. I read the process for replacing a power supply fuse (http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/power_supply_failure.htm) but this appears to apply only to V1.0 power supplies. If the Foxlink supply has a fuse, it's location is not obvious to me. While I am getting a new PSU, if I can replace a fuse on my existing supply, I'd like to give it a try so I have a spare. Any hints or help appreciated. Thanks
I found the fuse. I was looking for a standard "glass" type fuse but my psu has a low profile, circular type. Multimeter testing indicated the fuse is still ok. On closer inspection, I see the surface of a chip on the small, upright circuit board on the opposite side of the psu has been blown off. Seems hard to believe this could happen without blowing the fuse. Oh well. We'll see what a new psu does. Hopefully the surge stopped at the psu and didn't go on the the motherboard. Visual inspection of the board, it looks fine.
