This is my first post, and I see I already made a mistake, by not saving the Nero error msg. I printed it instead. Anyway, I've been trying to copy an unencrypted dvd. I've made three coasters. I'm using Nero 6.X, updated to the latest version. Lite On burner, XP. Media tried has been Phillips, Princo, and Teon. It says burning failed at 4X. It gets about two thirds through before stopping. I even tried running it through dvdshrink, and shrink stops after it encodes 68%. It doesn't give an error msg, just stops. What other info do you need, or do I need from you experts?
Try switching to some good media. Try Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Ritek. Burns that fail after the burn has been in progress for a few minutes are almost always media related. Post a burn log if you can. Make sure you edit out your Nero serial number. It's near the top and starts with 1a23 or something like that. Nero stores all the error logs so you can still retrieve it. I just can't remember the location...Maybe Creaky will see this and help. I'll go look and if I figure it out I'll let you know.
Go into My Computer, Program Files, Ahead, Nero and the look for the Nero History. Cut and paste your log.

You need an update on your firmware current is GS0P http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_firmware_dvd rw.asp Scroll down until you see your burner and you will see the current firmware. Sony disks would definitely be an improvement over the Princo. Try the update and see if this makes any difference.
Out of curiousity what are you trying to backup. Are you trying to do an on the fly burn with Nero This would not be a Nero burning problem but indicates something wrong with the source disk.
I forgot all about checking for firmware updates. Anyway, I updated the firmware and used a Sony disk. And it worked. Got it to copy. I don't know which cured it, but it made a copy. What I was trying to copy was a very old John Wayne serial: "Shadow Of The Eagle", filmed in 1932 by the defunct Mascot Pictures. I got it from a friend of mine with whom who I trade old time radio shows, movie serials, and some B action/adventure movies. I am going to give my neighbor a copy, as he is a diehard Duke fan. He said he never knew the Duke starred in any serials.
Well if the burn worked I think that the media switch did it for you. How did you perform the burn? Did you open Nero and make the selection "Copy DVD"? That selection leads you to the settings that allow "on the fly" copying which is not a great idea. Next time select the icon right below that one. It is the "DVD-Video" icon. You will have better luck doing that.
Yep, I was using copydvd. I'll try the other method when I want to copy something else and see what happens. That was the first time I ever had a copydvd fail. I've made many, many copies of various things, and this was the first time I had the problem. Some with name media, such as Fuji, and others with the no name media.
