Hello, I have this problem: without changing anything (software/media) my samsung ts-h552b stopped burning dvds (but not cds!). I tried to change media and writing speed just to be sure, but it didn't work. All I get is this message. Could it be a burner problem? I have the latest version of Nero and of the Firmware. Can anybody help me please? This is the log I get: Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Programmi\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 26/10/2004 18.35.34 Nero Version: 6.6.0.15 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 15e (Nero Express) Recorder: <TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B>Version: TS10 - HA 3 TA 1 - 6.6.0.15 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 3 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <TSSTcorp DVD-ROM TS-H352A>Version: TS04 - HA 3 TA 0 - 6.6.0.15 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 3 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y160M0 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorp DVD-ROM TS-H352A atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B atapi Port 3 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === TSSTcorp DVD-ROM TS-H352A D: CDRom0 TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 510MB (522988kB) Free physical memory: 332MB (340836kB) Memory in use : 34 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 12.7.2005 ISO compilation 19.54.08 #1 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6314 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : TRUE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet : TRUE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 19.54.08 #2 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 19.54.08 #3 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B running 19.54.08 #4 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 19.54.08 #5 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3231 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 19.54.08 #6 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 267 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 1807567 (401:40.67, 3530MB) 19.54.08 #7 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 279 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 19.54.08 #8 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2457 Recorder: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: MCC 02 - RG20 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 19.54.08 #9 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 445 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 19.54.08 #10 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 830 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 1807568 (1807568) = #1807568/401:40.68 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 1807568 blocks [TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B] -------------------------------------------------------------- 19.54.08 #11 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1043 Prepare recorder [TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; It could be your drive or media.. Try cleaning the lens with a comercial DVD lens cleaner or sometimes some compressed air will do the trick. Try also to write an image of the disk to the Hard drive. that could rule out any of the software...
Ok, cleaned the lens but nothing Next step should be opening the whole box and have a look at the cables.. sigh
Got nothing until now, updated firmware & nero, cleaned the lenses, controlled the cables and changed media.. damn samsung.. Should I buy a new dvd burner which do you advice me?
So you say it burns CD's with no problems then it just may be the drive is defective. How old is the drive?
The drive is 7-8 months old (and worked fine until last week). But.. is it possible for it to be defective just in dvd-burning and not cd-burning?
Yep two different lasers.. It should still be under warranty I would take it back and get a new one immediatly
creaky (or anyone with new info) sorry to shake the dust off this thread. I found this thread by googling for the errors. I am, currently, working on this error. I'll paste my log file below. I was trying to use Nero to burn some video files created by a DVD authoring program I was trying out (using "Burn DVD-Video Files"). The program only creates the files and you have to use another program to burn the files to a disc. I was wondering if any more info has come to light on this problem? To try to solve this problem I have updated the burners firmware and Nero (version 6) with no joy. I grabbed a copy of TMPGEnc DVD Author (version 1.5.13.44) from a coworker. I just used TMPGEnc to burn to the media in the Nero log file: Recorder: SONY DVD RW DRU-530A, Media type: DVD+R Disc Manufacturer ID: MAXELL, Media Type ID: 002, Product revision number: 0 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 3 The burn completed with out errors but I have yet to view the disk in my DVD player. In the past 7 months has it been found that Nero is the problem? I have used 3 out of the 2 50-spindle of disks I bought in Aug. The first two I used DVD Shrink(?) to burn the discs without problems. Has anyone accross this error with the new Nero 7? Are Maxell discs any good? Thanks in advance, JC. ==================================================== Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=45056 bytes, created 12/20/2003 21:26:59 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 17:35:34 Nero Version: 6.6.0.18 Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 18e Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DRU-530A> Version: 2.1g - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI CD-ROM: <SONY DVD RW DRU-530A >Version: 2.1g - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1200JB-75CRA0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : IOMEGA ZIP 250 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DRU-530A atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8481B atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : AXV CD/DVD-ROM 2.1b axvodka Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD RW DRU-530A I: CDRom0 HL-DT-ST CD-RW GCE-8481B J: CDRom1 AXV CD/DVD-ROM K: CDRom2 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 510MB (523240kB) Free physical memory: 241MB (247612kB) Memory in use : 52 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 1.1.2006 UDF/ISO compilation 21:04:52 #1 Phase 112 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 DVD-Video files reallocation started 21:04:52 #2 Phase 114 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 21:04:52 #3 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6359 UDF document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : TRUE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 UDF Mode : UDF/ISO bridge UDF Revision : 1.02 UDF Partition Type : physical ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet :FALSE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : FALSE Allow more than 255 characters in path : FALSE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 21:04:52 #4 Phase 111 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 DVD-Video files sorted 21:04:52 #5 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 21:04:52 #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer SONY DVD RW DRU-530A running 21:04:52 #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 21:04:52 #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 21:04:52 #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 21:04:52 #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 1969519 (437:40.19, 3846MB) 21:04:52 #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 21:04:52 #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: SONY DVD RW DRU-530A, Media type: DVD+R Disc Manufacturer ID: MAXELL, Media Type ID: 002, Product revision number: 0 Disc Application Code: 0, Extended Information Indicators: 3 21:04:52 #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 21:04:52 #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 1969520 (1969520) = #1969520/437:40.20 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 1969520 blocks [SONY DVD RW DRU-530A] -------------------------------------------------------------- 21:04:52 #15 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [SONY DVD RW DRU-530A] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; @JesusC - - no worries, and google is indeed an amazing thing - firmware's up to date - http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#530 - DMA needs to be ON for that CD drive, fix by following this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - sufficient total memory but you need to always ensure sufficient free memory by closing down more programs prior to dvd work/burning - should be sorted by getting DMA back ON
Creaky I tried your listed suggestions. I know I changed the DMA setings but I went back and double checked the settings and found that the one drive in the previous log where it said that the DMA was off was set to "DMA if available" however the "Current Transfer Mode" was PIO. To fix this I "Uninstalled" the Secondary IDE Channel which the drives were attached. Reset the computer and then uninstalled the drives and reset again. Now everything is set to DMA. However, still no joy (log below) when using Nero to burn the video files. If that ain't enough when the process barfs it takes a matter of minutes, literly, for nero to register each click to exit. I then reset the computer to make sure everything is back to normal. The disk that I, mention in my previous message, burned using TMPGEnc DVD (same media and files) worked in my DVD player. There were a few spots where the picture was pixelated but I found that this was done during the encoding process. I'm open to suggestions but it seems that Nero (how, I don't know) does not like these disks. Is that possible? I've read posts on hardware and media not getting along but don't remember it being a problem with a software package. I haven't tried to burn data DVDs yet but I'm wondering if that is going to be any different. Knock, Knock, Knock... is this thing on )) Creaky, have I reached the bottom of your vast knowledge, or haven't you had time to answer? I understand either way just let me know and I'll try posting on the usenet groups or something. What ever the case may be I appreciate the help. JC
sorry, i've got a few replies i hadn't caught up on. to me it's now down to one of two things, the burner isn't getting along with those discs, or the burner's not getting along well itself, ie it's failing.. i not so long back retired my trusty Sony DRU-700A after a couple thousand burns, took me a while to see that it was failing..
Hello! I have the same problem... I tried with Sony and Samsung discs but the problem didnt disappear and more strange that I can burn images with Alcohol. Is this a Nero problem? @kaidomav - - Nero is a little out of date, however your problem does not look like it's Nero-related - burner's firmware is up to date, but as at Nov 2004!, so is quite old now - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1876 This means the burner's firmware is ill-equipped to recognise newer media - DMA needs to be for that Toshiba drive, fix (turn DMA ON) by following this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm - sufficient total memory however virtually no free memory so your PC will be using virtual memory ie a portion of hard disc; this in conjunction with DMA being OFF will be causing your problems - if the above fixes don't resolve your problem then try better media, these Optodisc are not too good - see all my comments
Thanks for replying! I turned On the Toshiba driver, but the problem still persists... how can I resolve the memory problem? I tried to update the firmware using the firmware from sony website at this time (the first time, I use the firmware from the link that you show me).
no worries. just noticed a speeling mistake in previous reply. anyway, to free up more memory you just need to close down as many programs as you can prior to starting the burn process. Also don't multitask during the burn ie leave PC alone while burning (just better to be sure of a good burn without any disk activity at same time as burn is trying to burn data from that same hard disc)
