Most dvd players ship from the factory with the DTS feature turned off, because most people don't have Home Theater equipment. You need to go into the dvd player's setup menus and turn on DTS. Sometimes it says DTS on or DTS off. Most of the time you have to set the digital output to bitstream, not PCM. In a few cases, the choice will be to set it to "Raw".

Dvd players usually have a digital coax or an optical output. Some have both. On back of receiver, where the digital audio plugs in, one of the inputs should have in small letters "DVD". Use that input, if your dvd player has that kind of output. If the receiver's input for dvd is digital coax, and your dvd player's output is optical, you'll need to go into the receiver's setup menus, and reassign the optical input for dvd. Your manual will tell you how. It's really not hard, but for a newbie, it can be a little intimidating. Just read instructions carefully, and go step by step.

I'm not familiar with your receiver. If it has the "YPAO" feature, I'd run that, to calibrate the speakers to the room it's in. It's not perfect, but I hear it does a fairly decent job, till you can do better tweaking.

    BTW...........
Don't buy Monster cables, unless you have a lot of money you want to waste. Get the cables from Radio Shack, or better yet, at Best Buy you can get AR (Acoustic Research) cables. They are as good as Monster, for about half the price.
    Good luck! Keep us posted?

The best you'll get from the tv is Dolby Digital 5.1, and then you'll have to be using digital cable or satellite (unless you have HDTV and get OTA HD). Even with digital cable or sat, you'll have to have some premium stations (HBO, Starz, Showtime, etc.), and not all of them broadcast DD 5.1. I'm afraid that 99.9% of your tv programming will just be in Pro Logic (simulated surround). It's not too bad though. Just not as good as real 5.1.
I'm not familiar enough with the play station, to answer that one. Maybe someone else can answer that for you.
    Good luck!
