Captured home movie and burned to DVD but will not play on tv player

Hello, This is my first post and hope its in the right spot. I have been trying to convert my digital 8 home movies to DVD using the Roxio DVD Baasic software that came with my Plextor DVD burner.This is the problem... After using the capture program I used DVD builder to basically build a menue with my daughters picture and assigned the avi I captured . The burned DVD ( DVD -R) will not play on the TV , the DVD player hunts for the disc then comes up with a Disc Dirty message on the TV. Now today I Re did the project and made a vcd, this will play on the DVD player. Is there something I am doing wrong. I know this is probably a question most newbies ask and I appologise if I make anyone angry for re posting. Your help is appreciated and I have a ton of home movies to convert. Thanx. Tim

 

Did you try DVD +R's? That may be the issue. Some dvd players are fussy about which they'll play. Does the original work in your computer?

 

Hello, thanx for the help, it was not the dvd after all it's my sony player.
