I just got a new DVD burner and I'm trying to test it out by burning movies. I've used this guide from the site: http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm The dvds are compressed and put on my hdd. Then when I try to burn them I get "illegal disc" errors and stuff like that. I tried to burn directly from DVD Shrink after it finished copying to my hdd. But whether I try to burn it with nero later, or try to burn it right after the files are copied, I still get an error. I've gone through about 5 dvd-r's already! Please help me! I have a Sony DVD RW DW-D26A drive. Here's the exact log from the latest error I got. This occured when trying to write with DVD Shrink as soon as the files were copied to my hdd. By the way, I can write dvds with just data fine. Here's the error log: Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero API version: 6.6.0.15 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 15e Recorder: <SONY DVD RW DW-D26A> Version: JYS2 - HA 0 TA 0 - 6.6.0.15 Adapter driver: <nvatabus> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ? === Scsi-Device-Map === CdRomPeripheral : SONY DVD RW DW-D26A nvatabus Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1600JD-00HBC0 nvatabus Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : Generic DVD-ROM 1.0 d347prt Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === SONY DVD RW DW-D26A D: CDRom0 Generic DVD-ROM F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1022MB (1046960kB) Free physical memory: 653MB (669636kB) Memory in use : 36 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 17.7.2005 NeroAPI 11:29:45 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation started 11:29:45 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 11:29:45 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 11:29:45 PM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 11:29:45 PM #5 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer SONY DVD RW DW-D26A running 11:29:45 PM #6 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 11:29:45 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 11:29:45 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 11:29:45 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3231 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 11:30:47 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 267 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2238031 (497:20.31, 4371MB) 11:30:47 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 279 Write in overburning mode: NO 11:30:47 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2457 Recorder: SONY DVD RW DW-D26A, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: RITEKG - 05 Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 11:30:47 PM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 445 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= Insert empty disc to write to. get the latest firmware.....>dvd decrypter.>tools>drive>check for firmware updates, the disks are not being recognised enable DMA
Hi there, He will not be able to enable DMA like we all do, since he's using nVidia IDE drivers, see the Adapter driver: <nvatabus> HA 0 above ! I pretty sure this is nVidia IDE Drivers... (Anyone ?) It was written in an other message from Nero Tech Support, Nero and nVidia drivers don't cooperate. I think step one would be to remove the nVidia drivers, and stick with the Windows XP atapi drivers. Then he will be able to set DMA like we all do, in the Device Manager. http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm
Cougar, you are correct. The DMA option is different for me. I tried to uninstall everything under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controller list. When I restart, it still reinstalls the nVidia drivers. Here's a screen shot of my screen. It's kind of hard to see. So what i did was deselect the box that says "Let BIOS select transfer mode" and I was able to select "Ultra DMA 4 - Ultra66" from a list. Will this solve the problem? If not, how can I uninstall it so that it doesn't reinstall nvidia drivers after reboot? I right clicked and selected uninstall but nvidia wont die! I just want to make sure before I make another coaster for the living room...
Hi again, I have never seen nor used those drivers. Will it solve the problem ? I don't know. All I know is that Nero Tech Support mentionned in some other message in the past that Nero and nVidia drivers don't cooperate. Visit the Nero website, maybe they have things for you to try/do. Good luck, sorry I can't be more of help !
