Hey, I'm using the latest Nero Recode (came in the NVE 3.1.0.14a package). I'm having a weird problem when I try to use it to backup DVDs. I'm using in conjunction with DVD Decrypter.

Anyways when I attempt to recode the discs using the automatic shrinking settings for a DVD-5 and try to have it create an image or burn directly to a disc, the resulting image/disc has it's structure messed up somehow. This can cause it to freeze a DVD Player if certain items are selected from the menus, or it simply may not work at all. Attempting to play the movie in my computer, while not making the program stop responding, also does not behave normally - Menu items appear where they shouldn't and are sometimes duplicated to places, causing playback to freeze on a computer. Nero Recode is also unable to import these images/discs it makes, giving an error message related to the structure. I have not been able to find the cause of this behavior in either DVD Decrypter or Nero Recode. I would consider it a bug in the software, but I have not heard of many others experiencing this.

This problem occurs only when recoding to the image recorder (tested by mounting with ImageDrive) or directly to a disc. Recoding to a hard disk folder works fine, allowing me to use Nero Express or Burning ROM to burn the DVD.

This has occured with two different movies so far.
I am running on Windows XP Pro SP2.

Any help is appreciated.

that sounds a little like the hard drive needing a chkdsk or scandisk, it's like the file system needs checking basically...

Thanks for the reply. I ran a disk scan, said something was corrected but didnt report anything major. I tried again afterwards and it doesn't seem to have had any effect on the problem I have.

Hello, I was doing a google search to see if anybody else has this problem and found your post. I think I have solved my problem by doing the following:
1. Upgrading the firmware for my DVD writer.
2. De-selecting 'Burn at once' and selecting the best quality button when using Nero Recode.
3. I also un-loaded Microsoft AntiSpyware when burning DVD's. I had heard a rumour that there is a conflict between the two programs.

I made these changes all at once so I'm not sure if it was one or a combination of them all that fixed my problem. Anyway, I have now burnt 8 DVD'd in a row and all play back perfectly. BTW, I also tried different media and it made no difference so I'm sure the problem was software based. Hope this helps.
