There seems to be nothing but weird and confusing posts about everything PSP in here. Usually AD is the place to go for info and MATURE people. I'll be creating a few guides and FAQ's in the next couple days.

Rules: 1. Do NOT ask me where to get ROMs or ISOs
2. Do not ask for hacked EBOOT loaders. It's legal to post/host ones that have NOT been modified.
3. If a loader is not on the list it does not exist. Don't ask
4. Don't take this guide ANYWHERE else without my permission.

How to load/run NES emulator:
The first thing you need to know is what version of “firmware” you have on your PSP. Firmware is the operating system of your PSP. Right now emulation is only possible with firmware versions 1.0 and 1.5. If you have upgraded your PSP’s firmware to version 1.51 or 1.52, you will not be able to run emulators on your PSP. You can check this by scrolling left on the main screen of your PSP till you hit “Settings”. Scroll down to “System Settings” and select it. Scroll down to “System Information” and select it. Under “System Software” it will have your Version #.

Instructions For a Version 1.50 PSP:
Download NesterJ at http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/nesterjpsp.shtml. In my opinion it’s the best NES emulator for PSP out there. It’s also updated on a regular basis. BIG THANKS to PSP Wiki / Ruka, the creator!!

Extract the NesterJ files onto your desktop.

Next download Kxploit.
Thank you Killer-X and the PSP-Dev team for this great application!!

Extract and run Kxploit:

In “Nombre” (Name), type in NES or NesterJ .

In “Fichero PBP” (PBP File). Click the '...' and find the folder you extracted the NES Emulator in (you did this earlier for NesterJ) and Click “OPEN” once you’ve located the “Eboot.PBP” file.

Connect your PSP into the computer using the USB-A to USB-Mini cord. On your PSP, scroll left to “Settings”, then “USB Connection”. It'll say “USB Mode” on the screen. It's connected.

In “Unidad PSP” (PSP Unit), use the drive letter that the PSP had been assigned and select it. (Mine is K:\).

Click “Generar Ficheros” (Generate Files.)

The message “En La.. etc” should show.

The emulator is now on your PSP.

Disconnect the USB safely from your PC and exit out of USB Mode on the PSP.

On the PSP: Scroll to “Games”, then “Memory Card”. There should be a Corrupted and non-corrupted file, DO NOT use corrupted. Run the one that says NesterJ or NES emulator.

Now all you need are Roms…

*NOTE* ROMs are a very sensitive subject. Lets just say if you don’t have the original game then don’t download the rom… It’s illegal (meaning against the law). Don’t ask where to get them or link sites where they’re located. There are plenty of places you can download LEGAL home-developed games that are just as good (if not better) then Nintendo games. Google it. That being said, let’s move on…

With NesterJ, ROMs can pretty much be placed in any folder on the PSP. I like to place them in the folder ending in “%” because then when you load up the emulator it goes directly to your list of ROMs. Example: K:\ (PSP drive when connected to PC), then folder \PSP, then \GAME, then \NESTERJ% NOT \NESTERJ

So the folder you’re looking for (when PSP is connected to the PC) would be: K:\PSP\GAMES\NESTERJ%
Replace “K:\” with the drive letter on your PC and “NesterJ%” with whatever you names the NES emulator folder when running Kxploit.

Some people like to create a new folder titled “ROMS” on the PSP and place them there. It’s up to you…

Once you have the ROMs loaded in the folder you selected, go back to the “GAMES” section on you PSP, run the emulator, select a rom and start playing.

There are a few options you can change on the NesterJ emulator such as screen size (full screen rules) and processing speed. Most of the games run fine at the default settings, so besides changing the screen to full, I would leave them alone.

To get to the settings, simply press the L1 button. You will see the options and they are VERY easy to use.

This is MY personal list of tested games. It may vary depending on what rom you've downloaded. If you see it on a different forum it’s either stolen or me. :P

wrong. some loaders ARE illegal. I hate when people try to argue on something they know nothing about. Read the piracy act and sony policy before you say untrue things you may have heard from sites that hack the psp. if you modify a loader to bypass security it against the law. there are plenty of loaders that do this. just because YOU are not the one who does it...whatever. im not gonna waste my time. believe what you want, just dont include me or argue on my thread. ty.

Homebrew pack that is already set up for you ...

Many thanks to Cr4igp4lmer and Giga_Phil for this release, and especially the authors of these fine programs we use everyday. You can reach Cr4igp4lmer in his development thread http://www.pspupdates.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2925 for any questions/comments.

ISO load

It's very very easy to do. Download your iso (usually multi-file rar format)

Extract the files in the rar file at once (hold control and highlight every .rar file in the pack)

It should extract another .rar file that contains the full ISO file.

Extract the iso file.

Your final folder should have a folder named PSP_GAME in it.

Download the loader for the game here: http://hroo772.hopto.org:8181/psp-launchers/
(If the loader is not listed on that site it prob does not exist yet or is too new and has yet to be tested)

Extract the loader

You should have 2 folders and a readme file. Open the readme file. In it should tell you what to name your iso file that you extracted earlier.

Rename the PSP_GAME folder you extracted earlier to whatever the loader readme says. Move it to the main drive on your PSP.

Take the two folders within the loader and copy them to the GAME folder of your PSP.

Example: My Lumines iso was originally named PSP_GAME.
The Lumines readme (extracted from the loader) says to rename that PSP_GAME to LUMI_GAME. I renamed and moved the new named file to the PSP drive. In my case it would be K:\. Then I move the 2 folders that came with the loader into GAME on my PSP. In my case it would be K:\PSP\GAME.

Exit out of USB mode and try it the same way you would an emulator.
There is a 32mb Lumines loader for those of you with only the MS that came with the PSP...

the loader page IS legal. There are no loaders on there that bypass security. The iso's are not legal if you do NOT own the actual game. If you're afraid it might be trouble, you should just not do it. read up on the law first then make your choice.

Very good but why do you need to download nester and do all that extra stuff you can just download Kxploit and place all the files in games heres a link to the download http://files.pspupdates.com/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi?0,1,2,0,38,474 much more simpler all you do is if you running version 1.50 just stick in the usb place all the files from the rar in games and than place your nes roms in Jester or it has lots of other emulators too such as GBa Gb Sega gen and much more

Just curious, has anyone defeated Castlevania 1? I did back in the golden days of NES. Just once though. Tried it recently, and I am getting angry. GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!

I am suprised no one has said this site yet.

http://www.pspbrew.com/utils/packgen

It is the simplest way... as it does everything for you, and its updated.

1) choose which homebrew applications you want (games/emus/apps)
2) click generate
3) extract file DIRECTLY to your PSP.
4) your done!

This also optionally hides corrupt files. Or if you dont choose that it will automatically put all the corrupt files at the bottom of your list so they are not in the way.

To Update Homebrew: Do the same thing. Just overwrite the old files.

This is the only way I could get everything working for me... so i hope it helps all you.

Don

A few small questions;
Is the ISO load method Firmware free or not ?
Am I able to create a japanase ISO and play it on my europe PSP ?(From memeory stick that is)
And Is it possible to create your own game ISO(Home brew)But play it without installing any homebrew program...?

thank you.

hello triplebud,
i have some questions concerning your iso load. after extracting the
multiple rars, i am left with a single easy cd creator image instesd of another rar file containing the iso. what must i do next? do i need to somehow extract this image further as the process keeps asking to extract and replace even though i already have the image created in my folder? or, do i need to use something like isobuster
to end up with a psp_game folder?
thanks for any help you can offer.

whats the extention on the file? is it like .bin or .iso? You may want to keep it in ISO format and use the new fastloader depending on the file size and MS.

Better yet, what's the original file name from when you downloaded it before extraction?

thanks for your reply triplebud. i started out with several rars, when extracted i am left with 1 .iso(can't think of the file names off hand)should i use isobuster to unpack the iso and create.... psp_game? also ,i read your fastloader post i am concerned about the rumors that this loader changes the FLASH on your PSP.

keep it an .ISO file and use fastloader. It does not change flash. It's also a very good prog. You do need a UMD. any umd. The readme explains everything you need to know as far as where the files go. I'm busy at work but still trying to create a guide.

here's the guide for fastloader V0.5..i'm still updating the games list so let me know if you get anymore...
REMEMBER THESE GUIDES ARE FOR BACKUP PURPOSES ONLY!!! This is probably one of the best loaders out right now..

You will need to download Fastloader V0.5 you can google(it's pretty abundant now)

Once you have downloaded and extracted the Fastloader V0.5 to your
Desktop..you should have have an initial folder that
says "Fastloader-PSp Layout"...double click on this folder and you
will see another folder "PSP Layout"...double click on this folder
and you will see three more folders "ISO, ISOMISC, and PSP"...copy
the "ISO" and "ISOMISC" folders to the PSP directory, your psp folder
not the one that appears with the two other folders(the first window
that pops up when you plug in your PSP system)...now double click on
the "PSP" folder from the fastloader download(NOT the psp folder for
your psp), then double click on the game folder and copy
the "Fastloader" and "Fastloader%" folders and paste them into YOUR
PSP\GAME directory(double click on YOUR PSP folder and then double
click on YOUR Game folder)...now take the iso image file you have
from your backup of YOUR game and place the ISO image file(the dvd
icon looking file) to the "ISO" folder that you placed on your PSP
directory...now that you're done with that back out of USB mode and
go to your memory card stick icon(the one under the umd icon) and
look for the Smiley face icon...press x...and it should bring up a
SpongeBob background image up...if you have a umd disc in the drive
it will ask you to take the disc out...once this is done or you
didn't have a disc inserted in the first place it will state the
name of the iso that you placed into the "ISO" folder...now press
x...it should say initialisizing..and it should launch your game...
i will keep this guide updated with new games...good luck.. ;)
P.S. to return to the menu for Fastloader from the game press L Trigger + R Trigger + Start...to return to home menu..do the previous and once at that menu press L Trigger + R Trigger + Home

Great Loader...All ONLINE capabilities are functionable, and is a MULTILOADER(as long as your memory card has enough space)

WORKING: ATV Off Road Fury, Ape Escape, Coded Arms, Darkstalkers, Dead 2 Rights, Hotshots, Mercury, NBA 2k5, Need For Speed, Untold Legends, Wipeout, Tiger Woods...more to come...

NOT WORKING(May differ for everyone): Ridge Racer(Froze at car selection), Dynasty warriors

Dolla Dolla Bill Ya'll
