Ah, another great member who agrees with the more common motion that...
"moderator for thread is not good"!

I hope no one takes my comments the wrong way (as if).

Or maybe its the way others were treated in the process and right there in public? We may be online but that is no reason to be callus and unfeeling; pubilc humiliation is NEVER an acceptable option! ...certainly three or four people of position ganging up and spewing venomously against against another member (sometimes one of their own) where all can see and hear is hardly respectful to the individule or the site members. The one thing wrong with this site is that it tolerates an uncontrolled animosity and disrespect at all levels of membership. Then we scratch our heads and wonder why good members leave?

Ahh well, it was good while it lasted. cant win um all. :p

Well actually, my latest little endevour (sp?) is to build computers and sell them on ebay. :D

I cant remember what the language technique is called....the opposite to personification...where you give humans animal qualities as opposed to giving objects/animals human qualities and/or characteristics.

    Ah well, ill never know.

My bitch is that people are bickering and it doesn't need to be happening. If the staff wants to close Safety Valve, it's their site.

Does that sound as though each thread has to adhere to staying on topic all the time? Part of the attraction of the safety valve is not having to comply with strict forum policy that we see in technical threads. I suspect that's why the rule of Safety Valve posts not counting toward rank was initiated. In Safety Valve I thought moderators were only needed to prevent language from getting too out of hand and reminding members there is no personal fighting. If the staff has changed their mind, then close Safety Valve or set down firm guidelines for posting in the forum.

I'm among those who asked why close a Safety Valve thread for being OT when that was part of the charm of the thread. I don't know about the others, but I wasn't attacking ddp. I was wondering if there was suddenly a change in staff policy concerning Safety Valve. Granted the technical section of AD needs to be kept on topic, but Safety Valve has nothing to do with learning. I hate to think of some of the things learned if that's the case. LOL

The regulars of the thread Ireland started seemed to enjoy it. Those who complained, I don't understand why. If they didn't like wading through some of the nonsensical posting, they shouldn't have. Safety Valve is for venting and having fun, no info searching required. Read the last post and dive in. Sadly it came to some complaining over what may not have needed it and a moderator deciding to take action.

The bickering is ruining Safety Valve and affecting the rest of AD. If one thread needs closing, there's many that do. Does the staff need to set rules or leave SV as it is? Sadly ddp got so involved that he said me or the thread. No one asked him to do that. Other threads have been opened and closed before without the hassle. That's why I think there may be more than I'm seeing here. I only asked that a thread be reopened until the SV policy was changed or at least till posting rules are in place. Do I care that much about the thread? NO, I'm not a big regular, though I do like to drop in on occasion and say hey to some of the regulars. I don't have to sift through everything said since I last dropped in. Do I think a thread is worth a mod? Definitely no, but I think there was more to it than that. Am I sorry I said anything? To a degree. I think Safety Valve should be left as the Safety Valve, where moderators don't let things get to out of hand, but don't try to control the direction of threads. I'm just looking at it in retrospect. If the staff wants to change it, it's theirs to do with as they see fit.

I didn't know what was going on or what was involved at the time. Seems more than just closing one thread at this late date. I don't know ddp and definitely didn't ask him to leave. Hopefully his close associates, Creaky and Nephilim, can coax him into returning. I'm sure they have their hands full without another active mod leaving to increase the load. Without moderators, the forum wouldn't be much of a place to exchange ideas.

In the spirit of Shane: ddp...

Sure, I posted it as a bitch that they had closed the thread but that isn't why I lost my temper; they'd closed many threads I'd enjoyed over the years...I agree, its their right to do so. I lost my temper when I went up further and saw the way a bunch of grown men were acting like a bunch of high school punks getting their jollies ganging up on and publicly attacking someone and enjoying it. I often here about "kids" being here; well, if one is to balance evils, then porn and foul language would still be a better influence than backstabbing and public humiliation. I can tell you with certainty the sort of influence that has. I've been here since 2003 and I've seen plenty of our younger members go from being really responsible and respectful in the forum to mean and nasty youngsters emulating the nasty behavior they see from their seniors who revel in the humiliation they inflict on others. Porn and foul language would be better examples.

@billyboy and Ripper ... no, I meant what I said and won't change it, but I didn't mean either of you. You're both great guys and AD is a far better place with you in it.

@billyboy..."antropormorphism" is also used in theology as the descrition of God in human terms: "God walked through the garden..." or "the holy spirits breathed the breath of life and he became man..." etc.

I missed that part. I guess I should have been paying attention. Are you saying this is about politics and behind the scenes fighting? Or is it an open fight that we're missing? I mentioned I suspected something other than just a thread closing and/or reopening. That's happened before with the mod not being personally involved and giving warning the thread and members need to follow the rules.

i can't believe this crap is still ongoing (and i can't believe i'm wasting more finger movements in replying). Safety Valve is indeed supposed to be somewhere to let off steam but it's not MSN Messenger. However any comments i've made were NOT about just Safety Valve, short of using characters 1024x768 sized i don't know else i can say the same blessed thing.

/me reaches for another can of Stella to 'let of steam' as it's more satisfying that mouse-scrolling thru pages of well, whatever it is.

Unfortunately, being something of a noob to the Safety Valve, I asked what was happening when Ireland's thread got closed. I had no idea that would automatically put me against ddp in the eyes of some members. I wish I hadn't commented. Seems a situation has come up where you're either for ddp or Ireland. Neither of them seem to be saying anything now, but their absence feeds the fire for those who have taken sides. I don't know your friend ddp and am not familiar with what's going on here. Like Nephilim said, the place wouldn't be much without moderators, but this seems to involve 2 moderators. I know I don't need to be involved. Hopefully things can get resolved so factions don't develop. So excuse me, I think I'll quit the Safety Valve except for Nephilim's peaceful gun thread.

I was just saying I don't know the participants and don't intend to be taking sides in a disagreement. I'm outta here till the smoke settles.
