Hi, I am trying to burn a movie using my Memorex 16X DVD External Burner using DVD Decryptor. I make the ISO image files using Shrink, but when the burn process gets to 14% it fails. For reference I have also used Nero Burning ROM and it has also failed, though at various point (somtimes 10%, sometimes 20%, never more than 30%). hi i have seen this before on the old DD site but as we know cant go there to look now, but do you have any packet writing software installed like nero INCD ? or philips software? as it trys to access the drives! do you have an external burner? people have got over this with useing nero to burn, so make files to hard drive first! or try useing an old version of decrypter as they dont have this problem
I had InCD but I recently uninstalled it to no avail. I do have an External DVD Burner and have tried to burn with Nero with no success. the file will randomly stop writing. What I want to know is, is there such thing as a timeout with a burner, like, does my burner just stop burning after a certain period of time (or amount of info written)? Also for reference, I have successfully written substantially smaller files with Nero and this burner, but I have not attempted any other file as large as this to see if size or the specific file plays part.
hi 2 more things is your burner set to master or slave in device manager? if so change to the other one! and use nero removal tools to clean registry and then get latest version from the net! and install without incd of course! (heard also that having a ALI chip enclosure/usb causes semaphore) also run through this to check out your system! 1. Running Programs Make sure you quit all running background programs, such as anti-virus software. Windows 95 Users Use the Ctrl-Alt-Del function to quit all the programs using the Task Manager, EXCEPT for the Explorer, systray, and your recording software Windows 98/ME Users Select [Start] -> [Run], then input "msconfig". Disable everything under the [Startup] tab, except "system tray'. Windows 2000/XP Users Open the Task Manager, then select the program/s under the [Application] tab, then click [End Task]. 2. Drive Connection Other devices may be interfering with the CD-R/RW drive. Disconnect all other removable devices, then try recording again. If there is still a problem, try the following. Optimal Hardware Configuration All hard drives are placed on the Primary IDE, check that the drives are correctly set as master/slave. CD-ROM/CD-R/RW drives are placed on the Secondary IDE, set the recording drive as the "master". If you are using a USB or IEEE devices, disconnect them. Update your chipset Windows 95/98/ME Users Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click on [Device Manager], then click to open [Hard Disk Controllers]. You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, the Secondary IDE Channel controller and a brand name controller, e.g. Intel, SIS, VIA, etc. The brand name controller is what needs to be updated. Please visit their website to obtain these updates. Windows NT/2000/XP Users Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. ASPI Manager Check your ASPI layer configuration. Your recording program is likely to use the standard windows ASPI layer, which has been replaced by another ASPI layer of yet another recording program. Make sure you have the original windows ASPI layer in use and retry. If the problem persists, contact the drive maker. 4. DMA Settings Setting DMA mode: Windows 95/98/ME Users Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click on [Device Manager], then click on [CD-ROM]. This will expand to show the CD drives on your system. Right click on a drive and select [Properties] from the menu. Click on the [Settings] tab and check that the [DMA] option is enabled. Repeat this procedure for the remaining CD drives. Win NT/2000/XP Users Right click on [My Computer] and select [Properties] from the menu. Click [Device Manager] on the [Hardware] tab, then click to open the [IDE ATA/ATAPI (hard disk) controllers] section. You will find: the Primary IDE Channel controller, Secondary IDE Channel controller. Complete the following procedure: Right click on the Primary IDE controller and select [Properties] from the menu. Select the [Advanced Settings] tab. Check that the [Transfer Mode] for both devices is set to [DMA if available]. Repeat this for Secondary IDE controller. Note: In some cases older CD-ROM drives will not support DMA mode. In that case please set both devices to PIO mode. 5. Disc Recording errors often occur when the disc is dirty, or has fingerprints or scratches. If an error occurred during test simulation (before actual recording), clean the disc. If you are getting recording errors, try the following. Use a different blank, recordable disc. Use a different manufacturer's disc. Ensure the disc is clean before recording: Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution. Wipe the disc from the center to the edge of the disc. Dry the disc completely. Error during file verification If an error occurred when the files were being verified, record the same files again using a different disc. Read error when copying a disc When copying a disc, if an error occurred while reading data from the original disc, the original disc may be scratched or dirty. Try cleaning the disc. Remove all fingerprints, dirt, and dust from the shiny side of your disc using a nonabrasive cloth with a mild, nonabrasive soap solution. Wipe the disc from the center to the edge of the disc. Dry the disc completely. Try using a different source drive. To change the drive you use to read your disc, click the Change button when asked to insert a source disc into your drive tray. Select the drive you wish to use from the drop-down menu. Insert your disc into the new drive. Try using copying the disc using one drive as both the source and destination drive. When you use your recorder to both read and write to your disc, B's Recorder GOLD creates an image file of the entire disc to your hard drive and then copies that temporary file onto your blank disc. This can be helpful if the drive you are using to read your original disc is slow or unreliable. If the problem persists, contact the drive maker. 6. Drive If you have tried Actions 1 through 5 above, there may be a problem with your drive. Contact the drive maker with details of the error code. If the 5th and 6th digit of the error code is 80 through FF, then the error code is maker unique. The descriptions of these error codes differ depending on the maker.

Do that every burn now Once again I don't know how to change these settings Just did that, thanks! Once again, how do I go back to the original windows ASPI layer? It was already set as this I have used many different disks, all erroring with this file (I will refence that in a minute) Okay, now about the file itself (Which I now think is the MAIN reason it won't burn, cause of the fact I have successfully burned other files with this burner). @SDempsey War of the Worlds. It's a DivX file which I did successfully convert to DVD format with DivXtoDVD. I also shrunk it successfully with DVD Shrink. Thank you guys for the help, I appreciate it.
hi ok so you can burn movies ok and to the same brand of discs too? if you can load to dvd shrink it cant be that bad!?! i dont know about ali chips i read it on another thread searching for info on this for you. check dma / master and slave with nero info tool found in start menu! also check aspi layer too
Here's something you may find interesting: Using Nero InfoTool, it says my burner can only burn to DVD-R and DVD-RW (even though the box says it can write to +R/RW, and I DID write to +RW using a smaller file) The reason you may find this interesting is that all the disks I've tried to burn with are +R/RW. Do you think that if I use a -R/RW it will write the file better? ---- Also about the ASPI layer, I clicked on the ASPI tab in InfoTool at at the bottom in black letters on a yellow background it reads: "ASPI is no installed" (This is under the "System ASPI" drop down) How would I go about installing this? (Note: Under the "Nero ASPI" at the bottom with a Green background it says "ASPI is installed and working properly")
hi +R is said to be slightly less compatible than -R also RW is slightly less comaptible than R so best is -R of a good brand like ritek / verbatim / tiyo yuden and the aspi layer needed is here http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...=no&language=English+US&filekey=aspi_v471.exe i use avi2dvd for avi to dvd iso for burning, but time span is like 3 hours for me...
I'll have to go get some -Rs then, they are pretty good priced. About the ASPI though. I go to MSRun and go to the install, but when I get to consol is says "click any key to continue" and I press the space bar as the instructions say to and the consol just goes away. What do I do?

hi click on this after it installed to the folder... C:\adaptec\aspi\aspiinst.exe then use this to check aspi is loaded or use nero info tool to check C:\adaptec\aspi\aspichk.exe both in same folder
hi when buying discs the labels can be allsorts but its the dye info which you need to find out! now with disc you got you can load them in dvdinfo pro to tell you what the dye is! but on the net you need a site that divulges this info before buying! i use RITEK and the dye type is GO5 8x cant see on that site the dye info?
"ASPI is installed and working properly" Okay, now that what appeared to be a very big problem is over, I am going to try and burn this movie again... But before I do, what do you mean I need to check the dye? What is the website that would tell me the dye type of the DVDs I buy, and more importantly, what dye types are good and what types are not good? Thank you so much for your help thus far, I am learning a lot about DVD burning through you and others at this site.
I couldn't find the DVDs I use on that site (go figure cause I probably use crap media), but I did find the Verbatim disk I found. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817130998 I dunno if that dye info on that is good or not, you OBVIOUSLY know more about this than I do!
Verbatim uses VERY good dye~ azo dye to be exact~ i recommend Verbatims to people who are used to using crap media or poor quality media previously (reason being is that Verbatim can be purchased locally and is widely available, while my 1st choice of Taiyo Yuden needs a little bit of searching and knowledge before buying them locally..and there are a LOT of fake TY out there~) try downloading and installing dvdinfopro, it will tell you the media ID code for that particular disc you are using...well, actually, since this thread is about dvd decrypter, use that to tell you the media ID~ dvd decrypter will also tell you the media ID code as well~
It's good to know that Verbatim is a nice quality disk, so I'll go get some tonight. As for the crap media, is it common to have DVD Decryptor to fail at 14% EVERY time? I mean, after doing all the upgrading here to the ASPI and whatnot, I tried to burn again and whatdya know, it still fails at 14%. This may be due to the file I am trying to burn, though I encountered no problems at all decoding it and shrinking it...
Just a few other points I didn't see metioned. I looks like everyone is reffering to an internal burner when you actually have an external burner.. So it is of upmost importance that you make sure you are hooked up to a USB 2 port and not just a regular old USB port. Also you may want to check here for your newest firmware http://www.memorex.com/html/download_software_now.php?CID=11&PID=871 but it looks like you may have the newest one installed. Another note is that you are using DVD RW media instead of R media and it looks like from your log there isn't enough room on the disk you are trying to write to? Try some plain old -R or +R media..
