Does anyone know how to disable or bypass the copy protection chip circutry in a stand-alone dual video tape DVD recorder combo unit?
••• If you post the make and model of your unit, you'll have a better chance of someone supplying you with a link that has a macrovision hack •••
Good Point, I was assuming that the chip layout and technology would be pretty much the same for all of the combo units. Mine is a Emerson model EWR20V4. Thanks
Do a google search for a hack. These work on some machines by a sequence of buttons pressed on the remote control. Alternatively I use a chipped scart lead that stops that signal being recieved by the recorder. Do a search for "kitvision".
Try this http://www.multi-region.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=674 This additional info states that the power source is usually supplied by one of the scart pins on your equipment, however I had to buy one of those multi voltage transformers from the local £ shop. You need 9v and I think the socket is 4mm jack or similar in the side of the scart plug at one end of the cable. The little green light illuminates if the internal chip in the lead has power. Mine works a treat. The address I have provided is not the same that I used but the item looks identical. This will also let you record sky box office!!!! Good luck.
imlooking at it and i dont have a port that can fit on the back of mydvd recorder am i missing somthing here?
You need something like this: http://www.lectronradio.com/products/sima/ct200.htm The best price for it is here: http://www.nationalstate.com/s/godvd
Well you don't need anything flashy like a conversion box. I'm suprised you don't have scart sockets but you can easily convert a scart socket to 3 Phono (i think you mean phono not RCA) which gives you video(yellow) and left & right audio (red & black). It looks like an extension plug to the scart with scart entry on one side and phono output on the other end. Argos sell them I think or Maplins electronics. (UK) If you need to convert from scart you will definateley need an alternative 9V power supply for the modded scart lead that I have posted about previously.
jack1949 I don't believe the EWR204 can be hacked If you are looking to defeat copy protection [MacroVision etc.] or non compliance, look to the LiteOn/Ilo units [Ilo 04] and go to WWW.ss3f.com.and www.techolio.com Check with Guitarman You will find that this is cheapest and BEST method. You could use the Emerson for play and record non copy protected material and play to the LiteOn
mydvd player is a recorder plus has a 40 GB hard drive in it is there away to put in a dvd and it records to the hard drive.???
I think you have to buy one of those special Chinese obey-no-laws DVD recorders. Or try here: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?
