I bought a new drive for my xbox but it still does the same thing that my other drive did; I need help

Okay i had a philips drive. Then one day it started say disk reads error on the same exact spot every time i tried to play forza motor sport. so then i did that pot tweak for it but when i turned the screw just a little bit and tested it. It would say please insert a xbox,dvd bla bla bla. So i figure i fried the drive. Then i went on ebay and bought a new thopsom dvd drive. I got it a week and half later. So when i got it I plug every thing in and I put in forza motorsport and i tested but then then game wouldn't load up like my other drive. So after that i tested all my games but they wouldn't play. So i need help on whats going on here and how to fix it.

 

Well, my first question is are you trying to play backup games or real games?

Did you buy the Thomson drive used or brand new?

The Thomson drive is probably worse than your philips drive. I would have gotten a Samsung or Hitachi drive. Or you could have gotten a premade Samsung 616T drive as well.

All drives are interchangeable, so the Tommy drive you got is probably defective if you can't read real games w/ it.

 

Yes i am trying to play real games and yea i know the thopsom is the worse drive but i fiqure it would still play games and i was trying to buy a cheap drive for under 20 bucks and a thopsom was the cheapest i could find.

 

If the drive can't read real games, then that is definitely not good. Make sure that the bottom of the discs you are using are clean. I would say try and get your money back for the drive, seeing that it is most likely defective. I have a Thomson drive myself, and it works fine. You just got some bad luck on getting a bad drive.
