I have run across similar things. Although you say you went in safe mode and tried, do it in the Administrator log in of safe mode. Many times I have been able to remove such files and even Reg entries that would no delete normally. The Administrator Log in has full open access. Just because you account may have admin rights does not mean it has full access. There are still some very few restriction in a log in with Admin rights. -Del
just tried again in admin login and still no luck its sayin it cant find the folder etc if you think of any think else post it up but i think maybe the files there ti stay
If you still cant delete it. Find one of either of these programs to delete it, Killbox or hijackthis. Killbox is a delete on reboot util and hijackthis has a delete on reboot option located in the misc tools section.
i had a go with killbox and hijackthis and still no luck haha hijack can only delete files and killbox tells me folder doesnt exist how annoying if theres is still any thing any 1 knows about the prob please post buti think the only way its gonna go is a hard drive format or complete reboot of pc etc spose ill have to live with the silly folder being in the my music folder
yes i did unhide files and folders but i dont think i did when booting into safemode so ill giv this a try
Maybe I can help you guys understand this problem, so you can provide a better solution. Ok let me start by descibing my problem and how it happened. I have two files(on my DESKTOP) that I downloaded from a torrent tracker both are dvd-r files I do own the original but are damaged. When I downloaded the files they did not convert to a torrent file name. So now i have these files on my desktop (CASL65BG. and CAG5OP0F.) and when I try to delete them in safe mode or not they are not reconized and I get an err saying "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disc" I cannot delet from CMD.exe because it cannot find the file. Killbox does not work either. I hopr this helps you better understand, Because these file have been on my desktop for a couple months and I'm just sick of them being there. Please HELP a NEW Memeber
I had the same problem with a file on my server, I was able to delete the directory the file was in (also deleting the bad file) using command line and short file names. This was the only file in the directory so I was not concerned about loosing other files. You may have to attempt to delete the file and not the directory if you have other files that need to remain on your system in the same directory. Use with caution. START | RUN | CMD CD to your directory. Use: DIR /X /A to see the SHORT FILE NAMES of the files and directories there. RMDIR [/Q] [drive:]path RD [/Q] [drive:]path /S Removes all directories and files in the specified directory in addition to the directory itself. Used to remove a directory tree. /Q Quiet mode, do not ask if ok to remove a directory tree with /S Example: RMDIR /Q c:\progra~1\McAfee~1 RD /Q c:\progra~1\McAfee~1
I had the same problem as johhnie70 that I just fixed today. I had a file named "CAH803L1." on my desktop that I couldn't remove--even in safe mode. to fix it, go to the command prompt: START | RUN | CMD CD to your directory I couldn't see the file with the "dir" command; I had to use "dir/a" To delete the file: del/a [filename].* Ex: del/a C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\CAH083L1.* The file I was trying to delete had no extension, so I have a feeling that this was causing the problem.
I just started having this same problem. But I don't know what to look for in -start/run/cmd- I have 3 files in my recycle bin that won't delete. I keep getting that same message as above. If anyone has anymore tips please post them.
You could try and put your XP disc in and boot from it... Then press "R" on the first screen of the XP setup for "recovery console"... let that load and use the camand prompt there... It could be somthing to do with you operating system runing at the same time... So try what i have said above, as your operating system wont be running... *Edit Oh yeah, also if your lucky and have another PC, you could hook the hard Drive up as a secondary to that PC and access it that way, then try and delete your files....
The most succesfull method I have found to delete unwanted/stubborn files is to use a Live Linux CD. You can get Knoppix, Linspire, or any other flavor of linux that has a Live CD. It will be able to delete anything Win XP cant. Give it a shot.
