I cant get my xbox to play anything. It gets to the main screen but it says the disk is dirty. I tried several disks and I cant even get my lens cleaner to fire up. Is there something I can do to fix the problem? Can someone plz help me out?

Its about 3-4 years old. It is not modded and nothing has happened to it. A month or so ago i started having problems playing MVP Baseball 2005. It would lag up then say check the disk for scratched but the disk was flawless. Then it started happening to toher game until last night i went to play and it wouldnt play anything. I cant even get the lens cleaner to boot up it says the disk is either dirty or scratched. I hope this helps. Is it possible the lens is broken on it?

    possible but doubt it

this problem usually only happens to a ps2 never seen it for an xbox

but most likely your xbox is dusty

i recommend you open it up with torx 10 and 20 and clean it up even the lens that reads the disk

The laser sounds like it is going out, which is not uncommon for the older drives. If cleaning it and all other methods do not work for you, then you could try to pot tweak your drive to intensify the read power of the lens.

Since your drive is 3-4 years old, I would think you have either a Thomson or a Philips drive. To make sure check here: http://webpages.charter.net/modchipzone/xboxdrives.htm

Now, if you do have one of those two drives, you can try to pot tweak it. Before you even think about trying this, make sure all else fails to fix the drive. This is not a newbie guide, so make sure you are 100% sure you know what you are doing before you begin. Also, this may or may not work, but if it is a last resort you might as well try it.

    Here are the guides:

    1)Pot Tweak your Thomson
    http://minnwild.8.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=285

    2) Pot Tweak your Philips
    http://xbox-scene.com/articles/philipspot.php

If that fails, you have two options. You can either get a new laser for your drive or get an entire new drive. Obviously just going w/ the laser is cheaper, but it is a little more difficult installing.

If you do decide to get just a laser, here are some guides for you again:

    1) Changing Lasers on a Thomson
    http://minnwild.8.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=611

    2) Changing Lasers on a Philips
    http://minnwild.8.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=610

    Any questions let us know!

Try using alcohol to clean the lens off. If that does not work, did you read at all what I wrote above?

I have the same problem, but a Phillips drive. I tried tweaking, but it won't work.

My question is can I purchase the Thomson drive for $20 to put in the Xbox that came with a Phillips????

    Thanks,
    Mike
