I usually demux with DVDLab Pro just for the sake of simplicity, is it advisable to use another tool instead? I've seen rebootjim talking 'bout PVAStrumento, should it provide better results? Just curious...
Yes, it definitely improves results. It allows for audio sync, and can adjust the output to compensate. No other demuxer seems to do this well, and some don't do it at all. I've also used ProjectX, but it's not as reliable. Every time someone complains about audio desync in dvdlab, I tell them to demux in PVAS, and it usually fixes the problem.
Now I have PVAStrumento but I have these questions: File 1) AVI, bps 2000, Xvid 4, 1 hr 32 mins long, FPS 23.97 PVAstrumento works only with encoded files, doesn't it? Shall I use virtualdib first to rip the audio off and then encode with Mainconcept? If I do that then there's no need to use PVAStrumento because I had already demuxed, right? Or shall I not use v-dub at all and encode with Mainconcept (which demuxes anyway)? Again I do not demux with PVA. what about the FPS? Shall I let Mainconcept transform it from 23.97 to 29.97? File 2) VOB, bps 7500, 2 hr 12 mins long, FPS 29.97 I demux it with PVAstrumento but as soon as it starts it detects audio out of sync and after 5 hours its at 80% of completion. Shall demuxing take so long???
Also when encodeing in MainConcept and your Source File is 23.976fps you should set the Frame Rate to 23.976fps and then enable the 3:2 Pulldown which will make it 29.976fps because if you simply just set the Frame Rate to 29.976fps it will just Duplicate every 4th Frame to make up the Frame Rate which is not the Proper way of Converting 23.976fps Progressive Film Material to 29.976fps Interlaced NTSC Material.......
So, to see if I got u right, I should only select in Mainconcept NTSC 23.97 and then pulldown it to 3:2??? That's it??? Nothing else?
If your avi is 23.976fps then set the frame rate to 23.976fps and then in the "multiplexor settings" under "Pulldown" set it to "3:2" and when you encode your file will be 29.976fps ...you still have to set up your bitrate and other settings..... Cheers
I must be doing something wrong because Mainconcept "greys" the option of pulldown when, from the original file, I select MPEG-2 format and only 29.97 FPS appear as an alternative. Should I convert it to MPEG-1 (that allows 23.97) and then to MPEG-2? I've found that if I select on "field encoding" progressive frame the 23.97 alternative appears. What should I put in De-interlacing? None, Top or Bottom field??
You have to set the Interlaceing to "None" and then you will have the Option to set the Frame Rate to 23.976fps and then you will also be able to set the Pulldown setting to 3:2.....Cheers
Minion... thanks goodness we're both on line These are the options selected after following your suggestions... Dumb question: Should I go for Elementary streams, or should I stick to Program and then demux with PVAStrumento so to keep audio & video in sync?
Yes, those are the Correct settings... Well If you Go For Seperate streams you will save haveing to do it later and the files should be in perfect sync either way.... Cheers
BUT, mainconcept will not make them out of sync if I encode right away? Or it's a game of chance? hehe... Thanks for your unvaluable help buddy... EDIT: read Invaluable instead
No it shouldn"t make them go out of Sync...It might go out of Sync if you encoded useing a Different Frame Rate or encoded an avi with VBR audio but generally you should not have any sync problems if everything is set up and encoded Correctly..... Cheers PS: The Word "unvaluable" means with "No Value" were "Invaluable" means "With Value"....
Oopssss... you got the idea... thanks a lot... sometimes thinking in another language and writing in a different one makes fingers and mind out of sync ;-)~ haha
Minion, I've checked with AVICodec and it shows the mpv as a 29.97 FPS, that's how it should be, right? I've followed step by step your suggestions and the options were the one shown above...
That is Right...The 3:2 Pulldown is Just a Method of Converting 23.976fps to 29.976fps without Duplicateing any frames, Most Programs will read the MPV as being 29.976fps But "Virtual-Dub-Mpeg-2" should read it as 23.976fps because it can not read the 3:2 Pulldown flags in the Streams header..... Cheers
Well the Method it uses is a Bit different but the effect is the same, Useing 3:2 Pulldown is Probably the Most Common.... Cheers PS: Pulldown is the same as Teliclineing... You can read up on how this Process works and why it has to be done here: http://www.dvdfile.com/news/special_report/production_a_z/3_2_pulldown.htm
