Mitsui Gold 74 minute, 100 spindle for $81 (and I've seen them higher.) Are they really that much superior to brands half this price?
Jeez, I've been paying $2 apiece for these things (after you include shipping, etc.), albeit in lower quantity which probably = higher price per disk. Where does one find 100 for $81? --bbee
My god! You guys don't seriously spend that kind of money on cd media. I don't even have to pay more than 24p or 26p a disc for top notch DVD media. I've used many many 1000s of cd's since cd burning first arrived and have never heard of anything so expensive. I'd expect real gold for $81 for 100..
Well, then that leads me again to wonder, Where are you getting it? A typical price from an online vendor, last time I checked, was $27 for 25 MAM-A gold CDs with jewelcases. (I realize the jewelcases add to the cost, but I need them. Dunno where to get them if I bought the CDs on a spindle.) Add in shipping and you're up to about $35. I guess that isn't $2/disk, but it's still expensive. I'm archiving data that represents years of work, so I'm intent on finding the best CD, not the cheapest. But it still adds up. :-( bbee
Check out these: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...54175-4989426?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846 $97 for 100 for the real thing, but just Google "MAM-A Mitsui CD-R" and you'll find better deals.
Yes, those are without jewelcases. They're more with jewelcases. Some other forums are saying that MAM-A are not particularly reliable. Your experiences? bbee
Jewel cases are a dime a dozen...literally. I do have some Mitsui Gold CD-Rs, but not the MAM-A ones. Mitsuis aren't as highly rated anymore, but they still brag about a 300-year CD life. That's okay. I'll pay a little less for Verbatims since I only need a 100-year CD life. BTW, most Verbatim CD-Rs are CMC Mag. A better CD-R would be the Fuji ones made in Japan which are Taiyo Yuden.
These are Mitsui: http://www.american-digital.com/prodsite/category.asp?c=50 For the money, I heard Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs were just as good and alot cheaper. I think they sell them at Amazon and Newegg for $40 a 100-pack.
