So i bought an xbox fer Christmas and jsut recently it broke, by breaking i mean that it jsut stops playing games(for e.g. I pop in ghost recon 2 works then never works again, thoght it was the game but so i called up gamestop they wouldnt trade it, i was mad, so then i started playing Forza Motorsport worked for half a week then stopped, then my bro started playing lego star wars same thing. So now ive resorted to playing my bros Gamecube and only playing my remaining xbox games on special occaision for fear of them not working. I no one time i started the xbox and it flashed error message #7 (meaning somthings up w/ the hd. I no that once the xbox was bumped by my foot and it made a kind of high pitched whining riging like when u tap a light bulb. I hope du guys might have a solution, i dont wanna pay 80$ plus s&h plus microsoft repairs suck.

You should still have warantee on your xbox though. I would send it in and see what they can do.

Tell them that you're having hard drive problems and that you want another DVD drive (Samsung). It sounds like you're having a dvd-rom drive problem because it's hard to read discs on your console.

Sadly i was only covered by the three month (90 day) warenty. Do u think
that if I opened up the xbox i could just either replace the drive my self or possibly fix the current one?
    Any thoughts?

It's worth a shot. I would suggest you get a Samsung drive or if you feel up to the challenge, a Samsung 616 http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/203870

There are plenty of excellent tuturials around for how to do this. Does your xbox always gives a hdd error code? If so, when you open your xbox, make sure the IDE cable is attached.

I took it apart and just cleaned the lense, works perfect (knock on wood) all except my favourite game'sniff' ghost recon 2 but some deep scratches have come to light on it, they just showed up a day ago. Thanx everybody.

maybe it was positiond wrong? this happened to my friend who killed his halo2 the day it came out: if the xbox has a game disc in it and the xbox is TILTED it will actually start to litterally burn the game. pretty scary eh?
